    Default new MB

just put a new motherboard in a pc and it wont boot to windows. try it in safe mode and it loads somes tuff then crashes and goes back to the bios screen. the computer must be seeing the drive to a degree because i get some files loading when i try to boot into safe. so i decided to try a new install but when it gets to the screen where it should ask me about the partition the install is going on, the screen tells me there is no HD in the computer.!! if i goto boot options the HD is indeed there!!

anyone any idea what may be going on? oh it does see me ide DRIVE fine in the list just not the sata one!

If it's xp you'll need to load the sata drivers from a floppy mate.
Your original problem could of been down to a conflict of drivers with the new board or memory/heat or power problems, this might narrow it down
Are you using the memory from your old board ?
Has the cpu been upgraded, was there enough paste on the cpu ?
If you have upgraded the pc spec, can your power supply handle it ?
Did you check the bios settings ?

fuck the system doesnt have foppy drive! where would i find the sata drivers? do they do generic ones? cos i can find very little info on the board i have. certainly nothing on gigabytes site.
the system itself appears fine the crash is solely down to the HD not doing its job, now you mention the sata drivers that must be it as i havent put any on! i have new ram and new power supply!

yeah i checkedbios settings the sata drive thing is enabled andset to raid,is that right?

SATA drivers can be loaded by a USB stick or you can 'remake' another XP ISO with them in. But I cant remember the proceedure. I reckon google would be a great place to start on that.

    Which overseas Markets?
An Acer is an acer no matter where it comes from, the only difference will be the Language of the OS and the Keyboards.
Ive worked on a few French ones, and drivers are never an issue.
Les English buy them here and i end up putting an English OS on, and adding a Qwerty board for them.Exactly the same machines.
    Which board is it.
You are not having a good time are you LOL.

lol nope im not! got fed up trying to work out what was up with it so plumped for a board and chip, (it was actually the board, cos im using the old chip in it) and still trouble!

no no i realise the board is ether here nor there in relation to where it was meant for, but it just means there is no support and i cant find drivers or bios updates for it anywhere! its a gigabyte 8I945AE...https://ssl.allegro.pl/item602641386...z.html#gallery
seen a couple of references on the web with people saying about drivers from the acer website but they defiantely aint there!

i could do as was suggested and download a xp with drivers etc, but i have the original xp disc and i would like to have a legit install on it. As for slip streaming the drivers i wouldnt know where to start...but then thats irelevant cos i cant find the drivers anyway!!

Found these on the giga-byte site, if it's a socket 775 MB they got to be worth trying or compare your board to the pics

From experience installing XP on a Dell laptop with an SATA drive, I had to switch the SATA setting from AHCI to compatability to install it.

Once installed you can install the SATA chipset drivers and then switch back to AHCI.

if you are pissed off by now ,here are some solutions
1 Change bios or find sata driver
2 Install XP on an IDE Drive
3 Download Win 7 RC and install on the sata Drive.

Give it back and say see you in June 2010 when win 7 Expires.

I Expect it will be hacked by then as every other MS product has been.

Alway Always look up any board you are thinking of buying second hand as to availability of driver support.

no, not really same problem installing XP.

    From what i can find The chipset is a 943GML (945 family) with a 82801GBM (ICH7M)
Southbridge. The drivers are on the Intel site, it takes a while to
find them (the proper one ... if anything, there are too many files on
the Intel site), but the package is Intel_3100_Windows.zip, and burried
deep down inside that file is f632flpy.exe, an exe program that makes
    the F6 driver floppy

Google Intel_3100_Windows.zip Download and find f632flpy.exe.in the package,Now all you need is a floppy or Maybe a pendrive.

    Good Luck
