    Question Virgin Cap Outside 4pm-9pm?

When I've done a little downloading during the day [which I don't often do as I'm at work], I've noticed that the cap seems to have kicked in after downloading a little over a GB but outside the 4-9pm window.

I'm pulling some files down from Virgin's news server and I know that the cap has been invoked as I'm getting the normal reduced download speed.

Has anyone else noticed this? Have Virgin announced that they would apply the cap outside of 4pm-9pm as I'm not aware of them saying so but I could have missed a press release?

Ok, thanks for the info guys, wasn't aware of that at all but it makes sense.

10am - 9pm with a 1 hour gap in the middle is quite a big window!!I must admit that it's a pain when I come home at 5pm but I tend to use apps with a schedular built in now.

Does the same apply to all Virgin broadband speeds?

Surely in the next few years when more and more media is streamed around the house, plus advances in online gaming, VOIP, etc, Virgin and other ISP's will have to rethink their capping strategy.

same here the reason im about to jump ship, whats the point in paying for 10meg 20 meg ect... if you hardly ever get that, 2 meg would do for browsing but when it comes to doing owt else your screwed, bt and 02 internet is going to be my new suppliers, it,ll cost me the same but i'll get a better service, up to 24meg (up to exchnge distance depenant) im 1.6 kms from the exchange, but the main bonus is no capping at all, capping is just a way to rob you if you think about it, you pay for 10 or 20 meg and get that when your browsing but use anything else and your in cap mode, utter crap.

just had i look at the vermin website, im sure it used to be anything over 5 gig and capped but no, now it says on my package anything over 750mb within the times, fecking hell 750mb you cant get a xvid film for that now days.

vermin will have to change or everyone will jump ship and the only users will be the ones stealing it.

O2 are good but BE are better (owned by O2) they'll knock themselves out to get you the best speed possible.

I have a friend who works for virgin and she tells me 50mb does not have these limits. Would be interesting to hear if any 50mb users can confirm this.

was going to use BE but im sure ive read threads where it states its the same service as there owned by each other and that 02 was cheap for the same service. BE was my first choice but after reading there the same but cheaper i decided to go with them, sure i read on here or one of the other forums that people where jumping ship from BE to 02 as it was the same but cheaper.

not got in contact yet anyway as we have to wait for BT to sort us a line first anyway.

I doubt they're the same except for the accounting, BE existed long before O2 bought them so are entirely different technically.

As soon as the 50meg service goes mainstream you'll get capped, make hay boys..........

Right well ive just phoned my mate whoose on it and its defo slows down peak times same as mine used to (mine was the old 10mb line though) but it doesnt sound like its being throttled big time so maybe its just an issue of where he is?

Anyway best of luck to you as above lucky fuckers!
