    Default Washing Machine recommendation.

Our 17 year old Bosch has given up the ghost and we need a new machine, i have called about the one in Berts post but it has been snapped up...!!!

I am looking for a large capacity (probably 9kg) washer that will last. We have 3 kids and it will probably run twice a day most days...!!

I have been looking at the LG Steam ones which seem to get good reviews but the build quality seems suspect.

Has anyone got any recommendations on what to get or even where to get it from now that Empire direct has gone...!!!!

    Help.
    Thanks
    Crash.

Never thought I'd be talking washing machines on DF!

I have a 9kg LG Steam and have had no problems with it. Drum is fecking massive and I've had no balancing issues with it. I thought it might wander around the kitchen when it was full and spinning at 1400 but it stays still and is pretty quiet (IMO).
Only thing I would say is that I've hardly ever used the steam functionality so if I was buying now I would get a 9kg LG direct drive without the Steam. I'm just a sucker for gadgets.
I got mine from Comet (needed it next day) and got a good discount as I was after a fridge and a freezer at the same time.

Here we've had two aeg's since we've been here for 23+ years. They were both great but take their time. We thought last one died two years back so got something cheap and smelly to replace it only to discover the aeg only had a blocked pump.

We've had our Bosch for a while now, and I find it pretty good.
3 kids and used a hell of a lot.

I have the one of the 6kg miele washers and not only does it happily wash a king sized duvet, it is very gentle with clothes being washed.

Noticeable difference in less fade and bobbling with clothes.

    also very high build quality.

Hotpoint Aqualtis are good, I helped my workmate to order one about 6 weeks ago & he's been very pleased with it. (see hidden comments below):

Don't like to put personal information online but I could do with adding further info to the above. My dad has worked for hotpoint service for 40 years & without revealing anything about his role he has accurate & current info on reliability etc. and says the aqualtis is a very reliable machine. Large capacity, tilted drum, quiet - my workmate said he kept going into the kitchen becasue he thought it had stopped. Very heavy appliance, the heaviest range they make.

We've had a Bosch one for a few years now with no problems. My late mum had an AEG for something like 12 years, fuckin ultra quiet it was too and never went wrong in that time. German seems best.

My m8 replaced his Meile 6 months ago with another Meile after 14 years constant heavy use(4 kids to wash for), only reason he replaced it was because the kitchen didnt last as long as the washer, his sister has the old one still going strong.

its what i will be going for too when mine dies.

I sold domestic aplliances for nigh on 5 years before I moved away... Miele are the best as far as build quality, reliability and general quality are concerned.

LG are a good machine, and the direct drive system is quiet, with little or no vibration, plus is a more reliable system. AEG are also top notch at a reasonable price. Siemens are also worth a punt.

German manufacturers are the way to go really.

Didn't think hotpoint had that good a rep?

Anyway Miele, Bosch or Siemens for me. These seemed to rank the best when I did research late last year.

Meile if you can afford it, they have long guarantees, 10-25 years I think. Bosch and Siemens have a couple.

I tend to think that it will be good for at least the guarantee period, then after that you're lucky.

The miele do have long guarantees, and also some have a pc update feature if some new fangled wool/silk/whatever program comes out the engineer can come out to you and update the software in the machine and you'll have better/more energy and water efficient wash cycles etc.
