after lots of failed shots, trying to get to grips with my new macro lens (canon 100mm), i managed to get a couple of ok ones:
C&C welcome - i think i'll need lots of tips!

Now then, told you it was easy...
They look a litle bit soft m8, but you know what? Bees are feckin' hard to get especially as they never seem to stay still.
Excellent bokeh on the background though.
Good start.lets see them roll in now!
Paul.

Yeah some good shots. As Bilbo says, bee's are incredibly hard to get a good shot of.
The only advice I would have is that (from the exif) you were using an aperture of only f2.8 on the first shot. While this helps to get you a faster shutter speed and reduce camera shake, in macro the pay off is that your depth of field is tiny. This will make focusing critical and the slightest mm forward or backward can make or break the shot. I tend to not go below the f13 area (just my preference though) which seems to be a bit of a sweet spot on my lens too.
Also, my macro photography stayed pretty basic until I got a ring flash, and although i'm still very much an amatuer it's made a huge difference.
Good start though
yeah i thought 2.8 would be good to get a quick shutter speed, but i realised after looking through them all it was a nightmare to get one in focus. i'll lessen the aperture and get out in the garden again - lesson learnt quite quickly there
