    Default be careful out there

well chaps i'm packing in biking for good.

only been riding 6 years (through all weathers), and had no crashes but few close calls, that was until last thursday when riding home after dentist appointment close to home, me on a main road just pulled away from set of lights up a main road when some bloke in the side street to my left decides to pull out to go the direction i was coming from and hits me front left side with the front of his car. sends me and bike down road........

i've gone over the crash so many times in my head and if there was anything i could do to avoid and to say i'd learnt the i may have tiny argument for getting another bike but alas...nothing i could've done
so i can't put myself, wife and kids through fear they've gone through since last thursday.

i count myself lucky to be alive and to have come out of this quite lightly
broken collar bone, ruptured spleen (which is still being monitored in hope of saving), cracked ribs, bruising down left side, and swollen all over.

anyway, i'm writing this from my hospital bed in arrowe park on my x1 and hoping i be let home friday to try sort out the mess of lost income plus cancelling holiday in alicante as i'm not allowed to drive or do anything for 8 weeks .

    anyway be careful out there
    night

    thanks for comments gents,
i hope the insurance pays prompt, but i can see it being a nightmare
as i don't get paid for time off so my loss of earnings claim is gonna be awkward as i don't know how long i'll be off but need paying quite promptly (fingers crossed)

Hopfully you will get fixed up ok and back to full health.

I have wanted to get a bike for years but everytime I go to look I remember the time my dad got knocked off his and it puts me off, his wasnt a major bump someone pulled out in to him as well, motorbikes have been a huge thing in our famiy for years Gran and granddad travel round the UK and some of Europe on bikes. Going to race meets with family freinds who raced. One of my Grandads freinds even had a bike for me when they thought I was old enough to ride it then my Dad got knocked off and my Mum said no. The accident of my Dads put him off as well he only rode the bike in good weather after and opted to buy a push bike to get from Farnworth to BAe in Lostock for work which some dosey bint pulled out in front of him and he reshaped her drivers door and that was that he bought a car as soon as he was back up and able to go to work.

I've been riding for 25 years and apart from a few silly mistakes I made when young, I have seen my life flash before my eyes a few times down to car drivers either not seeing or not caring that I was there.....

It's a shame so many get put off of biking because of dickhead car drivers not paying attention.
I've had a few accidents myself (7months on crutches one of em) but never considered giving up biking but then i haven't got a wife and kids. Good luck to you mate

My left arm is an inch and a half shorter than my right arm, due to a dozy pillock that pulled out of a line of parked cars I was overtaking without looking in his rear 3/4 first; I was 18 at the time. The only bit of the accident I remember is looking down at the roof of the car (eek!). I shattered the elbow and upper arm on my left and temporarily dislodged the lens in my left eye - I still have a small scar about 1/4 inch from my eye. I was told later that the left side of my helmet had broken off after I hit the ground.

I was told once that a crash helmet is a cloaking device and when you put it on, you enter the twilight world of the invisible man. Now I know what he meant by that remark.
