Dell Inspiron 1520 HD Problem?

Hi Peeps

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with 80 gig a hard drive (C: OS and D: Recovery) with 2 gig ram and Vista Home Premium OS

I recently received a message on the screen stating that the HD was full. Having checked it via my computer and C: properties, it was in fact showing almost full. I'm a little confused as there is very little data on it as my desktop machine has all of the data and when I want it I access the main desktop. I carried out "check for errors" and all was fine, then cleaned the hard drive and again all was fine (not a lot of data required removal) and finally defragged, this took the best part of 4hrs to defrag and all was Ok until at the end it stated I should defrag the HD, I did this again and it only took about 3 mins and again it stated I should defrag, this has now continued??

I've scanned using my antivirus and malware software and all's fine.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

do you know which service pack you have installed for vista? one thing which struck a few people is the amount of space free'd up after installing service pack 2, so if your on service pack 1 go to windows update
