    Default XP 64Bit and Netbeui

I need to upgrade some PC's at my work to 64bit xp but the current PC's they use connect to some old machine tools using Netbeui.

Reading some of the stuff on the net about netbeui it would a appear that you can not use netbeui with 64bit without using 3rd party software.

Does anyone have any experience with this, who could offer some advice

NetBEUI is an old old protocol and MS officially dropped if for x64 versions of XP. It can be installed on the x86 version of xp and vista if you get the install files off the xp cd...

Is it not possible to set them up with Windows 7 x64 edition which come with Windows XP mode? This would enable you to install NetBEUI and the application within a virtual machine environment but use the application from within Windows 7 x64 as if it was actually installed on Windows 7.

Failing that just install Virtual PC on the x64 environment, an x86 XP virtual machine and run the app from within it...

I've not had personal experience of using NetBEUI on an x64 system but I thought this may be a helpfull alternative if you have probs with the 3rd party apps...

thanks for you reply i did think about the virtual machine option but it would add to much complication to the users.

I tried installing a 3rd party driver and it didn't seem compatible with the card so i just left an old 32 bit machine in place they only need it to copy files to a network drive.

If you're only copying a file to another machine on the network can you not do it via TCP/IP or maybe even IPX/SPX instead?

I assumed there was some sort of legacy application that specifically used NetBEUI?
