Who were you when you thought you where you was?. Whats a matter for can't you want to?
Usually the first suggestion is a 2-pronged attack using combofix and MBAM.
Dunno if this is what he needs, since I've never heard of PAV before.
A quick google suggests yes to MBAM

worst case scenario, boot in safe mode and delete PAV folder from program files - I've seen this quite a few times already. MBAM is a wise choice also
I would also suggest AVG Free for anti-virus and get shot of bloody notron

never tried nod myself, i figure alot of people aren't aware on how to hunt down serials, cracked exe's etc, and with a software product such as anti-virus which is critical to maintain and update regulary and hence piracy countermeasures are very easy, I tend to find most people [who ask for help because they don't know the subject] are better off with a non-pirated application () which is far more easily maintained.
sit down with your 'ol man an go through a scan with malware bytes, while viruses continue to be a problem, spyware and rouge anti virus products are becoming just as serious and even more widespread in my opinion (although a different nature of threat) but unlike viruses you don't really need constant protection, a scan once a week with malware bytes will clear out any junk before it becomes a major issue, there's really only about 6 clicks to remember, start scan, ok, close notepad, remove selected, ok/yes.. but if you dad can learn those steps then life will be easier for both of you.
