Back trak 4 help

I was using backtrack 4 to try and get a wep key for my home network becuase I forgot it silly me .

Now I was getting everything I expected. It took about 15 minutes for the data counter to go to 300 and this isn't normal. The router is running wep encryption. Any ideas to what might be causing this, I was getting a good signal strength could it be that the connection was not in use and so I was struggling to intercept the packets?
