    PS3 ps3 40gb fan problem

my 15 month old ps3 has started running the cooling fans very fast as if the thermostat on a car kicks in to keep rad cool.
i have looked at all the vents ,all spotless, its not in a tight space,i have never had it do it before, the system works fine (fingers crossed at the moment)
    any idea???

with the PS3 plugged into the mains - turn off the ps3 using the switch at the back of the console, hold down eject button, turn the back switch on. the fans will spin at full speed, i did this to clear some crap and it worked for me.

Or it could be that it's simply filling with dust and causing air flow issues, hence the fan comes on full force.....

@ OP, even if you cant see dust in the holes, doesn't mean it's not all over the heatsink preventing air from flowing between the fins.

Open it up and clean it out.

I agree with Herman. Most likely gonna be full of dust - especially if you have hard wood floors I find that they suck up more shit than carpeted floors. Get a screwdriver out and take a looksy inside.

You got access to an air compressor? or can nip to a tyre fitter and use theirs?

Just blow all the vents front and back, should clear any shit thats built up in it.

Nope, no special screwdrivers needed. Just do a google on how to take apart the PS3, there will be a few guides kicking about.

While that will prob get rid of a fair bit of it, opening it up will let him get all the dust out and cleaned up properly.
