got, treesize m8 now what do i do with it
use it? point it to your c drive and it tells you whats being used and how big.
got it up and running my documents and setting seam to be increasing my hard drive is down to 5.8 now lost a gig in 30 minutes or so
whats in it to make it bigger can you actually see it getting bigger in treesize?
Dont use spotify by any chance?
have you checked your temp directory, I had a similar problem last week and I couldnt understand where my c drive was going because I dont save things to it. When I checked my temp folder was 14Gb.
nope have no clue where its going down 4.76 now not downloading any thing??
Does it do it after a reboot? With your internet unplugged? Virus scanned and malware scanned recently? Windows updates downloading in the background?
Using TreeSize you should be able to find out which folder is the one that's growing. Just expand your top level folders and see which one's getting bigger by refreshing it a few times, expand that and do the same. Keep expanding until your down to the final folder.
Run this mate:
http://live.sysinternals.com/Procmon.exe
Basically it shows you in realtime exactly what files are being written to on the disk - as you're losing space so rapidly this will show you exactly what files are being written to and by what process
now low on virtual memory i think i must have some sort of worm ran superantispywere nothing much there any ideas what to run now dont know what to do with thart procman thing ran it and have aboput 13000000 things going on lol
Try Malwarebytes.
If it is Malware/Spyware etc. That will clean it. If your low on Virtual Memory I recommend running it in Safe Mode.
Just out of interest, what version of Windows are you running? I'm guessing Vista?
no using xp black down to 334meg now whooo hoo just downloading malwarebytes now
How did that go for ya?
Did it find anything?
it found some spy wear but don't think it has solved any thing .. in my windows live messenger its 24gig can not see where inside the folder it is storing such a large file tho
Could be your page file?
start --> control panel -> system -> advanced -> performance settings -> advanced
What is the paging file size under Virtual memory?
could your drive could be dying? is it making any noises or anything?
Sounds like a worm to me or like said elsewhere in this thread (spotify). This gobbles up your drive. I installed the new Adaware the other day and it found some nasties that malewarebytes, nod and xoftspy did not find
Pop over to Trend Micro Housecall and run an online virus and malware scan. It intalls minimal files and will thoroughly search your hard drive. It's free too!
