    Default Poecilobothrus nobilitatus (I think)

Hopefully Bilbo can confirm. If indeed it is Poecilobothrus nobilitatus, I think it's female due to lack of white wing tips.

Anyway, I was musing about the garden and happened to notice a tiny little fly on a privet leaf. I put all 3 tubes on the 105, and got in there hand held.

This particular fly was probably about 4mm in length and it seemed to be guarding tiny tiny little pupae. About 1mm in lenth (You can see one oof in the first image). I have to say I'm pretty pleased with detail of such a tiny tiny creature.

    Those eyes are cool.

Lovely shots, the 2nd one is the best for me. Is it not just a simple house fly? lol

No I don't think it is mate, most houseflies I've seen if googling have red eyes and black/white bodies.

    Cheers of course

Not oversure on the ID Ian, the wings don't seem streamline down its back like usual, though I may be wrong.

Good capture though, the iredescence in the eyes is excellent.

    Bilbo.

Yeah, I see the likeness, but its the wings that make me think.

    Ask Brian.

    Thanks Will.

Here's a shot of the pupae (or larvae, whichever one it is). It's not the sharpest image simply because shooting something that is 1mm or less, WAS moving and shooting macro with 3 ext. tubes on with the very mall focus area is not in the slightest bit easy.
