Lots of views because there is usually more flesh on show.

I like the lighting on some of them the darker ones maybe not so much.

Should have asked him to strip instead! That would have really shit him up! LOL..

I like the first one, the pink BG works, but the darker ones are in need of some work.

Keep at it. Studio nights at clubs are worthwhile.

    Crash... Here's my take...

    First the positives:

#7 is by far the best lit, and the best overall. In fact it's a great shot, and the type of shot you should be perfecting before you start experimenting with more difficult lighting. Her expression is tip top and you've got the crop bang on. Perfectly sharp and PP is very good (assuming you touched her up a little, if not, she's my dream woman!)...

    Now for the rest:

The unnumbered one - Not an overly complimentary pose and the shadow on her left side needs lifting with either a reflector or another light source
#1 - Way too dark. Your snoot behind her looks about right, but I assume you has a softbox or brolly front right which was way too low set. You either need to increase main light strength or widen your aperture on that shot. Incidentally, you using a lightmeter?
#2 - Facial expression and pose doesn't work on this one. The lighting is also way too harsh (I assume honeycomb or direct light front left). She is also too close to the background casting a harsh shadow. Move her forward next time if possible.
#3 - The pose is better, as is the lighting, but again she is too close to the BG giving you a harsh shadow you don't want.
#4 - Lighting ok here, but the pose doesn't work for me. not sure what she was giving you there, but I'm assuming she's a fairly new model (a lovely one at that).
#5 - This is one of the better ones, although I'd have cropped in tighter (just above the scarf with same ratio) and cloned out the laughter lines (although that depends on her brief).
#6 - This pose doesn't work for me either but her face needs a little more light either way.
#8 - This isn't a bad shot. The lighting works (except maybe you could have pushed the black in her dress a bit in PP, or controlled the light a little better but it's a minor niggle) however the shadow again on the wall you could do without (mind you it's less of an issue in this shot as in a wierd way it almost works)
#9 - Interesting idea, but without some form of front lighting it doesn't work.
#10 - If you were going for the half lit look, it's a good attempt, but the effect would have been better with a stronger light source on the left and narrower aperture to increase the contrast between light and dark.

Did you hire a studio and model to have a play, or did you have someone instructing? It's always very tempting to try out loads of techniques on your first run and in a way it's good if you can get some helpful pointer on where you could improve but on your next venture, try and take the good shots and work on those techniques to come out with a higher hit ratio. Once you have the simple lighting nailed, then you will find it easier to tackle the more tricky lighting.

Kudos for getting in there though, and you've certainly got at least 1 shot to be very proud of

Incidentally, you in Leeds? Which studio was this?

    Thanks Neo...!

It was at ISL in Morley, it was actually an intro to studio lighting that i went on so we went through pretty much all of the options from one light to 4 then added Snoots and gels to get an idea of what everything was and what it did.

I have not dome anything with then other than increase the temperature in the first shot but that has made her look a bit pink...!!!

I now have some pics to work with but i am trying to work out what to do with them to make them look better, sturation/hue/dodge and burn/softness/tone curves

    Thanks for the comments though.

All she was there for was to give us something to shoot no brief just hit as many poses as she could to give us an idea of what we liked.

I now have about 250 shoots of different poses that i can now use with others....

The whole experience has made me very aware that i should not trust the display on the back of the camera.......

I will be buying my own lightmeter asap.....

With the studio kit i think i am ordering today...!

    Good start on the whole.

I pretty much agree with neo2810's comments regarding individual shots but certainly keep at it and well, practice makes perfect as the say.

Oh and any more comments like this......

Cool, I know Lee and Matt at ISL through another forum, and they have regular get together's there which I've not yet managed to make but may make an effort next time out.

It was Matt who was teaching us.

He is leaving ISL though as he does not have the time anymore, and i do not think that they have massive amounts of cash coming in...!

Let me know if you are going to something and i will see you there...!

    great pics mate
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.
