yes its likely to help, is it going straight to 2rl ? that's overheating. You may find that a clamp has come off or the heatsink compound has gone hard and no longer works well

Knob it off. Dont open it (unless seal already gone).
If the seal is already gone/ripped, completely remove it with nail varnish remover.
Send it back to MS saying it's 3RROD intermittent. You've got 3 years from the date on the XBox.
[SHOWTOGROUPS="80"]There are official MS warranty stickers floating about that you can get...

yer 2 red lights as soon as i switch it on
will try the ms way but if not then will do rrod fix thanx peeps
2 RROD is overheating. You can fix it with some compound and the XClamp way.
I wouldnt bother though. Send it back to MS and hopefully get the new 3 RROD Fault free (apparently) Jasper Mobo put in!
i had a 2 red lighter a while back, sent it back saying it had 3 RL and came back no probs
i had the same problem with my release date console opened it up and cleaned the heatsink and fans out worked fine after that but as above you might as well ring ms and get them to repair it for free
its over heating for sure, take it aprt, pull off the heat sinks, clean, repaste, put it back together.
wont take you long and will fix it
yer goin give the rrod kit a try its out of warrenty now anyway
i have a machine here that overheats after 5 mins, replaced clamps and thermal paste as to maltz0rs advice and it seems to be ok now. the paste in my case wasn't dry and hard though, there just didnt seem to be very much and when i opened it the CPU heatsink seemed rather loose so maybe it wasn't touching the chip die hard enough,
the rrod kit fixed it
but the person who had it open b4 must have been a right noob cuz there were no pads on the 4 ram chips an virtualy no paste under the heat sinks
That's how microsoft do them
Not all 360's came with the chewit type heat pads on the ram chips
