A friend of mine (a very good one at that) contacted me earlier about a guy aged 23 on the net using Bebo to contact his 10yr old daughter. Hes got warned off before and told that shes only 10 but he keeps trying to get her to meet.

my mates a very honest type and does not say boo to a goose, very laid back but for obvious reasons hes upset and asked me to help.

ive got an email address but thats it, no location and no name/address.

what are the options.

ive told him to tell the police but you know what they will say "we cannot do anything until something happens"

now i thought about emailing him something nasty because ive got a good collection of stuff but its a hotmail address so will pick it up?

Stop his 10 year old daughter using the Internet unsupervised, or at least to limit her contacts to friends she knows. Not dificult really.

You are just assuming that is what they will say. The police would be right onto this, they have specialist teams for this kind of thing.

You must tell them mate, All the time you don't, he is out there possibly grooming other kids. He will continue to try and meet other kids on line. It is up to you to stop this twat now, please just tell the police mate.

If you re still convinced they will do nothing then give the News of the world a call, they would love to set him up. They have done this kind of thing in the past I recall.

Bebo is basically facebook but it's bigger in other countries. As someone said, there are special police teams for paedos and I think they would do something. That something might just be surveillance but if he is a possible paedo the police need him on their list.

well det, think of it this way.. there used to big some big names on chat, m$, yahoo - but they pulled out.. not likely I'm betting either.. but when faced with having their name mentioned in news reports as a peado's tool I'm betting that was a pretty big factor.. those names have dissapeared now, only to replaced by the likes of bebo and facebook.. the tools of todays peado. ..its all very new and shakey ground this social networking explosion, and especially when your dealing with kids, but your friend has nothing to fear in contacting the authorities, they're innocent in this..? at the very least he should sit down and at least try to understand what his daughter is getting into and set the preferences so her details are not public and she can't recieve communication from strangers.

to be honest mate firstly i would get her off social networking sites, 10 years old is a bit young in my opinion to be using them, then i would contact the authorities i have no doubt they would begin an investigation, they do have special groups setup to search out these people and would be better experienced and equiped to deal with them, as much as we would like to go round and knock the fuck out of him (i dont anyone on here wouldnt) unfortunately its best to go by the law with these things and if they get convicted they get a much worse time when they go inside than we could ever give them

I personally don't think these social networking sites are a good idea for kids. It's sad to say, but in this day and age it's a tool used by Paedos. And to let a 10 year old have a page is an encouragement to them. Facebook is supposed to be only for those 18+. I'm not sure about Bebo.

I would definately speak to someone in the police about his "harrasment". They may be interested, they may not. But what really needs to be done is educate his daughter in the awful world we live in, without giving her nightmares if possible. I don't think it's a good idea to go vigilante.

Also, I think it's a bit quick to label him a paedo based on the postings of a message board. So I'd suggest we don't get carried away. There is a justice system in this country for a reason. Even if it isn't 100%, it's better than most.

There are plenty of kiddy-based websites, my girls (eldest is 10 in a couple of months, so same bracket) use sites like panfu and club penguin, which are VERY heavily moderated internally for any kind of suspicious chat, so if the girl wants a social networking site maybe she should be encouraged to use something more applicable to her own age.

As for contacting the police - well, if it was my daughter I would have contacted the police and BEBO immediately without a shadow of a doubt.

I wouldn't contact bebo, they could block his account which might give him enough reason to get rid of evidence, the law is the best approach for this kind of scum....
