Default Help: with snow leopard install

I was trying to install snow leopard on my brothers mac book but his disk drive just spits out the disk after a while i tried it on a verbatim disk as well. I know the disk works because i used it on 2x macbooks which were successfully upgraded. the drive works on normal dvd5 copys.

I have apple care but cant be bothered to get it fixed just for this, is their anyway of upgrading without the disk drive?

If you look on the disk there is a PDF with instructions on how to install over the network.

Do you have access to the other macs? make an image of the disk, using superduper or carbon copy cloner transfer the image to a usb stick (need an 8GB one) - make sure the stick is formatted as GUID first, then plug it in and install. (I've done this on four machines now including a mates Air.

You can use just disk utility if you like

also can be done to a usb hard drive (be aware it will wipe the hard drive)

if you check in your utilities folder there should be an app called "Remote install Mac OSX"

Run this on one of the macs with snow leopard on it, put the snow leopard disk in and you should be able to do it this way

    Cheers
