    Default Apple warranty and receipts

If I have a warranty claim on my macbook, do I need to show proof of purchase? I'm getting worried because someone on one of the forums claims he was asked for it by Apple, and they would only accept a receipt from an Apple store or a reseller.

I purchased mine off an Ebay seller who I'm sure isn't an Apple reseller since he sells everything from watches to cameras. Sure he gave me a receipt, but now I'm concerned that it may not be enough, in addition I'm wondering whether to fork out on Applecare since the same concept would apply.

you can check the warranty status of any apple product online. The apple store gurus have the same information along with some extra bits and bobs. As long as it's not a grey import you should be laughing. To the best of my knowledge they don't ask for original receipts.

Cheers mate, I already checked and its saying warranty until August 2010, however that date could just be a generic date of manufacture + 6 weeks since I bought it in July 2009.

I have an imac which has been back to apple 3 times. at no time did they require a receipt. It's all logged on their files.
I intend to live forever, or die trying.

No receipt needed but i did have to get the previous owner to transfer ownership across as they had previously registered it......i don't think you have to do this but preferred to for my macbook.

Mines been in 4 times now and they have everything recorded within their computers, if in doubt phone Apple care customer care and ask them to check and book you appointment for you locally.... this way at least you are booked in by them and know where you stand..

You won't have a problem though
