Default VISTA or XP for gaming

    Thoughts?

I dont think newer games run as well on XP as it expects 64bit tech to play at full pelt. Even new HW is the same....

True but if you are going to upgrade the standard XP should be be to the 64b version or straight to Vista?

depends - XP is a touch faster than window 7 and used less memory but Windows 7 is shiny and new and has DX10 built in (without all the XP hacking to get DX10 running) Im sticking with XP for a while longer, but using window 7 on the laptop.

Face facts its when, not if, with windows 7. We will all be on it in 12-18 months time

nlite windows 7 to cut all the crap out. Got it running on my 701 eeepc and AW11S/B Vaio and it ROCKS! Fast, efficient and up to date. Less likely to get viruses and crap on 7 at the moment too as it has a fair bit of protection stuffs.

Warcraft on 7 I get 15 to 20fps improvement over XP and that's running the 32 bit version (I have my reasons for not going x64)
Eve online I get about 30fps improvement over XP

'nuff said really. Wouldn't go back to XP now.

Vista is shockingly bad though - although nlite that and it's better.

Oh - also DirectX 10 (and 11) will not natively run on XP - you have to hack the hell out of it and I doubt it's 100% compliant.

Cool does nLite now support windows 7 now then?

It was great with XP so I would be keen to try with windows 7. Any guides about on what to remove?

I think you have to use vLite for Win7 and Vista if memory serves.
