    Default Wireless Router & Laptop issue

    A friend of mine has a wireless router all setup perfectly. His iPod, PC and wireless laptop all connect fine. But he's bought a new Emachines laptop that always displays Limited Connectivity when trying to connect.

    Anyone know what the solution for this is? He's tried releasing and renewing the IP address and has disabled and re-enabled his wireless card still to no avail.

    I'm off round to have a look for him to see if I can sort it, but thought I'd ask for a bit of advice before I have a look.

    try uninstalling the card on his machine and doing a full reboot
    It should detect the hardware and connect. Ive had this a few times was just 1 of the machines at home and has always found new hardware and set itself up automatically

    Can be a Few things.
    New Emachine will prob have norton installed (Remove it)
    Wired or Wireless (correct key?)
    Correct Cable being used? (Straight though)
    Is router DHCP giving enough addresses.
    IPV6 might not be supported with older routers and this system will prob have vista.

    Can he ping locally and external ?

    and as above what IP is he getting prob be a 169

    Bang on TR! Norton was giving the hassle. It was out-of-date so I removed it. Worked a treat!

    Norton = Pish

    Causes more hassles than it prevents

    Glad you got it sorted
