    Default Dreambox DM800HD & Clones

Started looking around for getting one of these and there seems to be quite number of clones around.
Prices are obviously cheaper, but I was wondering if anyone is using one and if there is any difference when it comes to software and the way it functions.
Perhaps if there is not much difference, I could save myself few quid and go for the clone version.

i've got a clone, the protection is due to the TPM module ....looks like a sim card

the latest clone sim card can handle bootloader 72

as images get created they update the bootloader, i think we are on bootloader 74.

So you have a few choices, stick to one image on bootloader 72 and never upgrade, or use modified new images that use older bootloaders..... but don't necessarily give you the enhanced features of the new bootloader

ps I'm happy with my clone

Although the bootloader is encrypted, if you dissasemble the actual drivers you see a lot of references to the tpm module, in theory you could edit them in assembly.... but thats another story

Some newer clone 800s can handle bootloader 73. Or so they claim, I haven't got one so can't confirm.

Price difference is about £160, clones are going for £230 originals are going for £390.

It might be worth you waiting a few months for the DM500HD if you can do without the lcd screen on the front and lack of internal hard disk capability, it has an esata socket so you can still attach a HDD. It'll have a faster processor and a HDMI socket rather than the DVI socket on the 800HD. The 500HD is rumoured to be around £260.

Not even heard of azbox before. Are they as good, cos everywhere I look, it seems alot of people are using 800HD and already there are tons of support available for it.
Gotta do a lot of research still before I can invest in one, so I am not in a big rush.

I've heard that cccam is a bit flakey but couldn't say for sure. I think a few members on here took the plunge and got one. Personally I'd stick with the Dreambox name (clone or original) as there is a lot more support and a fully working cccam.

AZBox 'could' be a decent box but as of now i'd give it a 3 or 4 out of 10.Streaming content from PC is good but satellite side lets its down.Cccam does work but tends to lock.

I bought a genuine dm800 when they were first released for £340 just before they shot up to £390. Used to get lip sync problems on sly HD channels but have since upgrade drivers and now on bootloader 74 a lot better. I recently installed a 500gb sata drive and which I picked up cheap at dabs for £57. Link if anyone is interested http://www.dabs.com/products/samsung...0rpm-64RR.html

Hey satzzz have you put the new firmware and multicas on your mates box for him yet? It works much better and more stable now,and added to the fact Nabilosat are starting work on the azbox could well make it a good cheaper alternative to the 800hd if not the 8000hd.

Aparently not. They mark the box as $20 gift.
Hong Kong are currently on a national holiday.
Looking to order one next week when they come back from their holidays.
    Will keep you updated.

cool, very tempting, suprised they will take individual orders. You could make a tidy profit though if you ordered in bulk

    Hi
Some clones have cheap nasty components and are have many returns (30-40%) I have been told. I believe about 5 factories are manufacturing dm800 clones along with ex1000's and a few others.
I have heard that one of the factories in particular (don't want to name here) has built quite a rep for not sending goods paid for and dodgy boxes, however a couple of factories make very good boxes, that don't have fans that sound like a 1980's polski fiat, tempremental remote sensors and popping capacitors. You may also find they are willing to send you a "sample" one box but then after that to get a good price minimum orders are 10's at least.
PM me and I will point you in right direction in my experience!
    cheers
    LS

I have one turned up yesterday from szbtc. It took six days for it to come from HK. Total cost was around £169.

Size of this thing is incredible!

I only managed to connect it up last night and flashed it and did not get a chance to play around with it yet. Tonight I'll be configuring the motorised dish to pick up all the satellites.

    I'll keep you posted.
