Hi folks thankyou very very much for a very good discusion on modding a Wii
Geezah yor softmod way sounds fantastic but is there an idiots guide out there and do you need that Zelda game to help install it as I have seen other mods need.
909 what are the ribbon conector type solderless mods that you refer to please.

Sirdave could you please tell me where to find a guide on how to program the softmod and also the best and most upto date version as i presume there are lots of different ways and do you need a game to help program it and also could you use a usb memory stick to see if i can make it work, before investing in a good mobile HDD. I presume that when the new games come out they offer to do an update and this must not be done as I have children that play on the WII.

Hi mate
no game is needed any more, follow this guide http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/ this will get you the Homebrew Channel, and also if you can install bootmii in the recommended way you can backup your wii memory in case anything goes pair shaped.
You will need a 1gig sd card thats all, I will find you a decent guide later for the loading of a backup launcher, and yes you can test it with a memory stick.

Thanks for your help sirdave I am actualy trying this proces now but am unsure of the phrase add to root directory of the sd card as the 1st aad1f went to the sd card as told but then the hakmi instaler asks it to goto a root directory and also ther are s different ways it says about instaling this what is the one that you would advise please boot2 or ios I am a complete beginer at this sort of stuff sorry but i do hope to give some back to other newbies in the future.

i think i have done it right i have put the card in the wii and it asks do i want to install it if you have paid you have been conned i click yes then it sais it cannot be opened any ideas thanks in advance

can you tell me what files you have on your sd card, you mentioned earlier the root, that basically means straight in the sd card not in any folders so if you had to create a folder called apps in the root it would look like below
sdcard
-apps(folder)

anyway let me know what files etc you have on your card and also it should be installed as boot2 otherwise it doesn't offer a lot of protection.

i have now instaled the homebrew chanel and now invested in a 1tb hard drive but nothing to open in the homebrew chanel is there an idiots guide to putting backups on the hard drive to work on the wii i would like to do that thing shown earlier on in post12 with the pictures of the games you have on your disc thanks CB
