What do people use to clean with?

OK so I now have the DSLR and a few lenses, I haven't bothered with any filters for the kit lens with the 500D I don't plan to use it much in the future and it uses a not so normal size. I will be buying UV and circular polarising for the 77mm lenses I get eventually.

But what can I use to clean the lenses with? I'm on about the glass on the front of the lens and the filters?

I have an Oakley for cleaning my oaklies I guess the solution is ok but the microwipe cloth probably isn't the best?

My old camera it was usually a wipe with a clean tshirt

which wasn't normally that successful

tbh LJ, i never clean the lenses themselves. Get a uv filter fitted as soon as you can and clean that with a soft lens cloth or similar. best not to mess with the lens glass itself.

Get a Gioto blower to blow away dust etc from the lens glass.

Yeah I get where you coming from what if say your sister uses the camera and puts her finger on the lens that isn't fitted with a UV filter?

My UV filter on the 50mm needs a clean as well its been sat in the drawer for ages.

Cleaning the lens glass is no problem at all as long as you use Isopropyl Alcohol and lens tissue which you can get anywhere....

Lens pens are grand indeed. I got one for a quid or something with a B+W 77mm filter from hvstar. I carry a Spudz thing in my bag as well but rarely need to use it.

I just get packs of optical wipes - lens tissues presoaked in IPA.
You can pick them up all over the place - tesco's, boots etc

The lens glass is far sturdier than people think, not that you want to go whacking it around, but a wipe with a proper lens tissue will do it no harm at all.

A lens hood or clear filter is a good idea though.
