Body in suitcase is found in pond
Police have cordoned off the area surrounding the pond in Cliffe
A body, thought to be that of a woman, has been found in a suitcase in a dried-up pond on farmland in Kent. Kent Police said the area off Buckland Road in Cliffe, near Rochester, had been sealed off after the find shortly before 1330 BST on Thursday.
The dried-out pool is known locally as "the old pond". Nearby Buckland Road has also been shut.
A post-mortem examination is expected to take place later and the death is being treated as suspicious.
Police said inquiries were under way to establish the identity of the body.
The cause of death is not yet known.
A female resident who lives minutes away from where the body was found, but did not want to be named, said: "This morning I left my house and there were bollards outside and police everywhere.
"I was told a body had been found, that's all I know. I'm pretty shocked, you just don't expect that to happen."
