How do i get out of jury service??

Just got a letter telling me im required for jury service.

I really have no interest in doing this.

I have a criminal record all be it from +10 years ago and according to what i can fathom from this stupid form i am allowed to do this court case.

There must be a way out of it, can i just say im a nut job or something?

any one had to do this in the past or any other ideas would be appreciated!

I've heard if your daily pay rate (which they match is too high they look elsewhere) tell em you earn a grand a day... proof will be required though..

If you are in any doubt whether the following list applies to you, talk to your doctor or ask a family member or friend to explain it to you.
You don't qualify for jury service if you suffer from, or have suffered from a mental disorder/mental health problem and because of that condition:
-you are currently a resident in a hospital or other similar institution
-you regularly visit a medical practitioner for treatment
-you are in guardianship under section 7 of the Mental Health Act 1983
-a judge has decided that you are not capable of managing and administering your property or affairs because of mental disorder/mental health problem
-If you are on bail or have ever served a prison sentence

You can defer your jury service for up to 1 year if you have a prior engagement but at some point you will be called in for dury service. You can only defer once.

Other than the above your stuck with it, get it done, a week or possibly more out of work sat mainly doing bugger all and you can claim expenses.

Its more that im just not mature enough for it, if i was on trial for something i wouldnt want me as a juror.all i care about is ranking up in cod5 , keeping fit and my family etc!
Im just not that way inclined, its all too serious for me. ive done my time on the worng side of the law and the less i have to do with it the better, I know how corrupt the state can be from first hand experience and whatever evidence i saw i would always think it could be BS.
surely if i just write honestly that i would be no good, that will do the trick.

On a serious note however, a guy at work got called up for a second time (first time was last year I think) recently. The company basically produced a letter stating that if this guy was to be away for upto 6 weeks then the company would go under!

I think the employer claiming that the called person is important to the business is no longer an accepted get out of jury service.

If you turn up on the first day, wait until you get called into court then tell the clerk that you recognise the defendant from your friends network or tell them that you think you'd be biased because a similar incident to the crime effected you or your family previously.

You'll be out jury duty in no time.

That doesn't work that just gets you off that case you will then go sit in the room with all the other people that are on duty that week.

I did it in 2007 and got a 2 week murder trial on my very first day... fucking loved it. I now understand that I was lucky since some of my co-jurors spent their two weeks sitting in the waiting room reading newspapers.

I've done it twice now and found it really informative, mind you it could just be a power thing noting that we found them all guilty. The arseh*les were told that a min term to be served was 15 years......
