Matching up old mobos with their DVD roms

Ive got 4 old machines that i was going to heatgun to try and revive but in my usual disorder ive ended up with a pile of boards and a pile of dvd roms, none on them will boot as they have a variety of red light problems. Is there any way to physically ID which drive goes where?

Fraid not, unless you can get them to the dash and boot a game you're stuck really.

909 just red light fix them all so they turn on then while the machine has covers off try a disk drive a time until you get it working with a game.

let this be a lesson i allways mark the machines and drives just in case lol (i did the exact same thing)

if they're not matched up right does it see games as a dvd? I've got one of them booting and every drive i try does just that, even with an original.

Yup, wrong drive or key will give you a 360 DVD player and show all games as dvds

i thought they also gave en error code/black screen. i know ive had a few that have done that. ive also done some where the key was fooked and they did what xbox4life said too so might be both?

If you cross drive type, ie lite on in a sammy, benQ > hitachi you'll get 1RL & error 73 or black screen

Will also show this if the laser is fucked, or at least it did on one of mine. It booted every game as a DVD until I did a pot tweak.
