Default BUDGET CIDER BREWING !!! AROUND 12P PER PINT

You can make a real tasty budget cider with just 4 ingredients !!

x2 1.5ltr bottles of Tesco double concentrate apple squash (dilutes 9:1) £1.46 ea or £2.75 for 2 when on offer

x1 sachet of youngs bayanus cider yeast £1.09

1.5kg of glucose or brewing sugar, more if u like stronger than 5.5% about £1.40 per kg

27litres of warm water or 25 if like sweeter cider

put the lot in a fermenting bucket or reuse a water dispenser cartridge

takes up to 2 days to start fermenting

also skim off the orange foam as it appears

keep in a warm place for about 7 days or untill visible activity stops

bottle or keg with 100g sugar or 1 teaspoon per pint bottles for carbonation

or use no extra sugar for still cider

leave for 1 or 2 weeks & enjoy

no more expensive cider kits for me as magnum kits went up dramatically around the budget 2009

    Lots of turbo info here

    http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/index.php

Last time I just put 4.5 Litres of pure apple juice and a packet of wine yeast in a demijon. Left it to ferment out and then bottled it in to .5 litre bottles. Left it for a couple of weeks and then drunk it.
It worked out about 8% but it was very dry.
Im about to start another one. This one im adding some honey and goldern syryp.
'Sausages! Hot sausages! Inna bun! Meat pies! Get them while they're hot!'
... Hole food! Hole food! Rat! Rat! Rat-onna-stick! Rat-in-a-bun! Get them while they're dead!'

That cider doesn't look quite done, it's very cloudy. Bet that stuff gives you the farts.

yeah but usually we left it to clear for a few days, sometimes we couldnt resist and went in early but we got the good old ring of fire thing going on at times.

i did a variation of this recipe over xmas , i used morrisons apple squash, and also their apple and pear squash. after a few days nothing much seemed to be happening, so i added a litre of coppella pure apple juice (the one with bits in) and as soon as it went in it went mental! i left it till the end of its cycle , filtered it into bottles and added the sugar. within about 4 days it had gone almost crystal clear and carbonation had taken place, so much so that when i opened the bottles it shot everywhere like champagne! all in i made 30 1 litre bottles, and it tasted like proper decent cider. have still got about 15 bottles left. and it seems to be getting a stronger alcohol content the older it gets. 30 bottles cost me about 10 quid. will be doing same again next year!
also i recommend bottling up using PRESSURE TESTED glass bottles as the plastic one i put some in inflated like a balloon and popped the lid off when i was out one night!

Ive just bottled 5 ltrs of cheap apple juice 47p a litre. 2 large spoons of goldern syrup and 1 of honey. Added a bit of cinamon. Smelt great while it fermented for a week. Its about 8% at when I bottled. Will try it in a few days.
Ive also just barreled a 40 pint geordie bitter kit. Not sure whats gone wrong but ive just had to open the barrel and let out the presure as my barrel has just deformed!!

I think most people would find that preferable to exploding glass.

if you use PRESSURE TESTED glass bottles you dont have that problem. like i said i still got about half of what i made in the glass bottles that i put them in after fermenting, and all they are are re-used vhf 1 litre bottles. the caps are designed to let the pressure out slightly. worked a treat for me. have re edited my last post to make it clear to use pressure tested bottles!

exactly - the pressure that can build up with fermentation is stupidly large. I've had grolsch bottles and normal beer bottles (capped with a crown corker) explode with ginger beer before. If you're doing glass, make sure you've got them inside another box whilst you're doing the second (or last part of the first) fermentation for carbonation just to be on the safe side as they can do some real damage.

I have a similar barrel that i use after i have fermented my beer.
    http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/Home-Br...n/invt/0022554
I ferment my beer in http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/Home-Br...s76aYYKg%3D%3D
You are able to fit an airlock to the bin so the gas can get out.

Just checked my barrel and it now has a buldge at the bottom. The pressure relief valve was stuck. Just had to let out laods of presure

My cider is small quantitys and is fermented in a demi john.

I just use the sachets they sell in wilkinsons. You can even use bread yeast.
A good forum for info is http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/index.php
