Although I don't mind either, at the mo I have a MSI K7T266 PRO RU + Athlon 1800XP.
The main difference betweeen the chips are:
Intel make for future software which, when materialises, newer chips made for even more futuristic apps arrives on the market making the last chips obsolete and untested on these newer apps.
AMD however make for the moment and their chips take advantage of todays apps and software technology.

Gotta change mine, I'm upgrading to a AMD 1700XP. Was going to get the 2000XP but was £100 dearer.
Question: I ordered a heatsink & fan, Coolermaster AMD approved upto 2000XP, do you think I should get intake and extractor fans for the case as well? Will also be putting in a Leadtek Nvidea GeForce 4 MX440 64MB DDR graphics card, 256DDR RAM on a Abit KR7A-133 motherboard.
yes buy fans lots of fans all the fans you can afford

Just bought an Athlon XP 1800+ much better than that intel stuff :-)
Gone from a p2 celeron400 to a p3 450 to an amd k7athlon1.2 to an amd athlon1500xp , and can say amd is better all round , wudnt go back to Pentium !!!
.....fidds.....
Oh and im hopeing to swap my 1500xp for an 1800xp very soon !!! Aswell as swapping my 512 133ram for 512 of ddr ram !!!
Running an oldish 1.1Ghz Athlon T'bird under my hood along with my DDR Ram, the system flies.
Moved to a Dual Athlon1800XP 2 months ago
AMD 1800+
I'm a solid AMD fan now since i went from my dual PIII 733
I've had 1ghz and this 1800 and they both sweet
unless Intel convince me otherwise by showing me something outstanding - I'm sticking with AMD
Currently Athlon 1400 T-Bird.
Used to be AMD K6-2 333.
Always worked a charm - FAR Cheaper than Intel. intels are maybe better made (excessive heat => Chip slows down etc) but for the money... AMD all the way!
ITS AMD for me better value for money
dwf49
machine 1 p3 1 Ghz
machine 2 athlon t-bird 1.4 Ghz
Laptop P2 366 mhz
I can compare the P3 and athlon directly and I have to say on price vs performance AMD wins everytime.
The only concern I have with AMD is that heatsink detachment = dead processor and possibly fried motherboard and maybe burnt down house.
Whereas P3 and P4 can trottle back the clock speed enough to prevent frying.
So if AMD sort out that problem and they probably already have I will be convinced.
Cheers

1.4 Ghz Athlon - excellent CPU - excellent value for money
Temps for AMD???? - who knows what temp you are actually getting???
Over a period of time I have upgraded my mobo bios - and the temp reading for CPU has changed each time - although I'm not doing anything different or changed any of the hardware
But I have had temps of 26-28°, 35-38° and 59-64° under load and there seems to be no difference in the temp around the CPU regardless of the supposed temp reading
I've given up looking at system monitors for CPU temp details - especially as the 1400 can run at 95° according to AMD's Specs
