Default [guide]TOMTOM and external Bluetooth GPS apps on IPOD TOUCH

HOW TO INSTALL TOMTOM Navigator and a Bluetooth GPS device on an IPOD TOUCH!

STEP 1) Jailbreak your IPOD TOUCH (use blackra1n RC2)

    STEP 2) Install CYDIA

STEP 3) goto the packages section, then goto the NAVIGATION section, and look for roqyBT application. - INSTALL IT

STEP 4) Register the application (costs 8 EUR, about £7.50) - there might be a cracked version but worth paying for IMO. (check the website below before registering to ensure your GPS device is supported so you don't initially waste 8 EUR)

    h**p://www.roqy-bluetooth.net/roqyGPS.html
This application uses the Bluetooth stack, to communicate to external GPS devices (it supports loads) I used a Holux GPSlim240, works a treat.

STEP 5) Restart your Ipod (hold top button for 5 seconds, slide to turn off)

STEP 6) Install TOMTOM from APP store (whichever one you use )

STEP 7) run roqyBT (its in french but it's not rocket science), enable Bluetooth stack.

    * Make sure bluetooth is disabled in your IPOD touch settings menu, this doesn't need to be enabled. Also make sure your external GPS device is on.

STEP 8) Once the device is detected, you will see details on the satellites, locks etc.

STEP 9) Start TOMTOM, and away you go, it automatically detects the GPS as if its an IPHONE.

This also works with other GPS applications.

See the roqyBT forum, for a list of compatible GPS devices.

    Happy Days.

ps obviously this is not for IPHONE users, as you already get GPS !

I dont see why not. As long as the device has bluetooth, you should be fine.

    correct

GPS is not a service you pay for. If you have an external GPS bluetooth device, then you can use it with GPS apps like tomtom to connect to the satellites.

The reason for this roqyBT app is that, Apple will not let you use bluetooth other than connecting to bluetooth headsets. The roqyBT application lets the bluetooth stack talk to a bluetooth GPS receiver (although you have to JB the ipod to install the app). Then the tomtom app thinks its the built in GPS device you find in iphone 3g.

After you install the roqyBT app through cydia, you can't use it until you obtain a registration key to validate the install, you do this by paying 8 EUR through paypal, and he will email you a key.

Although I'm sure you will be able to find a way around paying, by looking for a cracked version, if you google it.
You can also download tomtom through installous, if you don't want to pay for tomtom.

My external bluetooth GPS Holux device cost me about £25.

I've got to say that its been 100% stable, and perfect.
