At the moment I'm using the standard red White and yello cable that
comes with ps3 but if I bought a hdmi to component cable (the one with blue and green
connectors) would I see a big difference using that set up on a projector
thanks

you would get a sharper picture as long as your projector has decent output (least 800x600 native),
also youd want your projector to support 16:9(widescreen) ratio,
otherwise it will give you a stretched picture(it aint that bad though).
there is no such thing as a hdmi to component cable. hdmi is digital and component is analogue. you would need a digital to analogue converter to do it which are expensive. an amp would do it but you'd be spending £500+
HDMI should be a bit sharper than component but not really much of an issue on a projector in my experience as the picture will be blown up so large.
You don't have to have 16:9 support on your projector. Change your settings of your console to 4:3 and it will not stretch although you will loose a little off the sides of the picture again it's not _that_ bad.
I use my 360 on a projector that does 1024x768 (4:3) native but will take up to 1080p over VGA (No HDMI or component sadly). I've been tempted to get a HDFury for the PS3 games so that I can use that on there as well but as I only use the PS3 for Bluray and the odd game of golf it's probably not worth the investment for me.

This is what most gamers with projectors that don't support HDMI use. £69 - converts HDMI to VGA (Which is analog) and VGA contains component elements so a VGA to component cable would be required if you really wanted to go component but most projectors will take VGA. Also the Fury will strip HDCP from video so you can watch your bluray through it.

I use an HD Fury adapter and it's solid.
Not for this purpose, but still. Bought loads of cables in trying but none worked.
HD Fury all the way. And the HDCP stripping is a fkin touch!

cheers for reply lads i think ill have to get the hdfury thing that seems like what i need to get best quality
thanks
I have an old(ish) Compaq one. It's a bit on the noisy side with the fans but it doesn't bother me that much. New is was about £2000. Lamp has had about 30 to 40 hours use though so it's not too bad. I'm also using a collapsible screen that I bought a few months back for about £250. It's a very nice screen and when I take the screen down it hides nicely in the living room.
At the moment I'm kind of skint so thinking of selling them. I also have a Panny 42" plasma which gets used a hell of a lot more to be honest. Shame as I really like watching movies on the projector
