Windows Mobile Development help needed

I have a friend at work who requires some pointers for some windows mobile development. They have a plugin for windows mobile 5 which they are migrating to windows mobile 6.1 and 6.5. The plugin sends messages back and forth to a server but when the mobile goes into suspend mode control for the plugin to send and receive is lost is there a way around this?

Any help at all would be much appreciated I'm just looking for some pointers in the right direction. To me it sounds like the app needs to work in a similar way to how the text messages work because its still possible to receive a text when the phone is in suspend or standby mode.

Don't know the correct answer, but found this on codeproject:

One of the items describes waking up the machine to perform work without alerting the user or turning on the screen.
