Default BBC sports personality of the year 09

    The list is out:

    Jenson Button
    Mark Cavendish
    Tom Daley
    Jessica Ennis
    Ryan Giggs
    David Haye
    Phillips Idowu
    Andy Murray
    Andrew Strauss
    Beth Tweddle

Who will win then? Jenson is apparently the favourite but my vote would go to Jessica Ennis. She missed out on the Olympics due to a foot/ankle injury, and then came back to win the World Champs. She had to change her take-off foot in the jumping events to avoid putting stress on the injured foot, and still be excellent at 7 different events.

Jenson did very well to win this year, but a lot of his success has to be down to the car/technology, and therefore wouldn't get my vote.

Ryan Giggs would be a close second for me - I'm not a Utd fan, but from what I've seen of him this year, he's been outstanding. Could be the dark horse for me.

To me its obvious that Button will win, although for me it should be Tom Daley.

To win the World Championship at his age and to improve so much in one year is outstanding.

    3. Jessica Innes

Thats a damn good list for once. More than one person could justifiably win it. Usually an F1 World Champion would win it, usually a new heavyweight world champion would win it, athletic world champions would win it, so right away thats 4 really strong contenders. Ryan Giggs is my clear emotional choice, what the man has done in the world of football is second to none, there simply is no other player as decorated in the English game, his longevity is incredible for a footballer in this day and age. But of course, there's no way he can win, because a large portion of the potential voters would deliberately not pick him because of who he plays for.

I couldn't vote for Daly. Sure, give him the Young Persons, but for me his sport is too minority to win, which is why Tweddle and Cavendish probably wont win either. Strauss shouldn't even be in the short list as far as I'm concerned, and Andy Murray can have Sports Personality when he wins a bloody major

So yeah, I think maybe Ennis deserves it the most. Haye fought a very unexciting (yet correct) match to win his world title, a couple of good defences with KO's would give him a better chance of winning it. Button for me it was too much the technology this year, the KERS thing giving him a huge advantage, and when it all levelled out, he was distinctly average. Idowu - sorry, I just cant stand the guy!

Got to be the England Women's Cricket team again? World and World Twenty20 champions in one year? For me this is a no brainer, shame we don't get to vote!

Overseas - has to be Bolt again for his performances in the World Championships. That 100m run must have had the whole world watching, the man is superhuman.

However, he did have a huge advantage with their double diffuser until the other teams changed theirs to match.

I reckon Button will take it but I'd like to see Tom Daley or Jessica Ennis win...

Depends on what people remember. Button had a great season start, but limped to the finish...Ennis and Daley had a good end of season, and Ennis was more high profile, so I've gone for her.

    Here's the other reason...(maybe NSFW)

I think Ryan Giggs deserves something, there have been some great players in football but they all only last a short time at the top and slowly go off the boil as they get older. This guy has been playing at the top for 17/18 years and he is still worthy of being in the united first team. If he left OT I would have him at the Reebok.

Jenson Button, English man wins the F1 championship. 92 Mansel won it and got the sports personality award, 98 Damon hill won the championship and won the award. Lewis Hamilton would have won it in 2008 if it wasn't an Olympic year and as a result it went to Chris Hoy, Lewis was 2nd and the female swimmer was 3rd.

So no mater what Jenson Button will win it just going off what has happened in the past.

The girl who does the heptathlon after the Olympic disappointment and to come back and kick arse. could get 2nd or 3rd

The bike guy yeah he winning the TDF so he could be in 2nd or 3rd.

The young lad the diver will be up there for coming back from the disappointment of the Olympics to win the world championship but I think he will get young personality of the year.

Team of the year will be the cricketers for the ashes or Brawn for GP
