Virgin rolls out Nagra 3 in Leeds area

The long awaited roll out of Nagra 3 by Virgin Media to encrypt their cable services has begun, with Leeds being the first area of the UK to be upgraded to the new system.

According to reports, it will be rolled out across the South of England over January, the Midlands by February, and the North West of England by March. By Easter, all of Virgin Media’s cable services should be running with Nagra 3 encryption.

This will make it virtually impossible for anyone to view premium cable channels broadcast by Virgin Media except by legitimate paid subscribers, resulting in a serious blow to existing cable pirates.

The news has long been expected, after Nagra 3 was rolled out in the Republic of Ireland earlier this year, and hardware upgrades to allow for it to be rolled out in the UK have been sent out through 2009.

While cable pirates will no doubt be disappointed that their favourite premium cable channels will no longer be available for free, Virgin are offering two months free upgrade on their TV services to new and existing customers.

If cable services are no longer wanted, then Sky has been providing special offers on Sky + and Sky HD for the Christmas season to bring in subscribers to premium channels.

Of course, there are also options to use Freeview, Freesat, or even use satellite equipment to explore the range of Free To Air (FTA) channels, which do not require subscription services.

In the meantime, when approached by Techwatch for comment, a Virgin Media spokesperson replied “We do not comment on security issues.”

you've been sniffing glue haven't you ....what little i understood of that post was nonsense...n3 is not already cracked and won't be fully any time soon..there will be no problem getting the cards...the problem lies in getting into the anti glitch cards and dumping the rom...cardless boxes like the dbox are doorstops....the kryptview is emulating n3 for now but will be dead too at the first change....if your sitting with an emu box now its your own fault...you were well warned this was coming and some chose too bury their heads in the sand...

Utter bollox.. This is just a variation of "I know a mate in the pub whose third cousin twice removed has cracked it"; it's like bloody S*y all over again. NOBODY has hacked Nagra 3 and unless your 'mate' has some very expensive powerful microscopes, acid etching equipment and the ability to solder wire thinner than hair onto the chip on the card and be able to log the card data in the stream, you are chatting out of your arse.

N3 hasnt been cracked on Sat at all m8!

The boxes you are refering to only work due to card-sharing.....nothing to do with a hack of the encryption system.

Thats the only way cable will become accessable other than an official sub in the near future!!

I know that the only reason that the original N1 was hacked was because of politics between Kudelski and NDS Group. The amount of cash spent on the situation and the equipment and people involved was unimaginable.

N3 is highly unlikely to be cracked. Not can't, just unlikely to be. You need to look outside the box to understand really. There isn't much of a desire to crack it. All the hack stuff in the UK regarding cable etc comes from Europe, and the sat scene. Funs, Atmegas and all that were in Europe long time before the UK. All the programmers, loggers and other shit too.

Like the main reason the PS3 is not hack is because Sony were smart and cancelled the desire to hack it. The PS2 was hacked mostly by the linux geeks, who wanted to run linux on it. When the released the PS3, they provided a linux resource, thus cancelling out the desire for linux geeks to hack it.

There's more to it all than that, but basically Card Share IS the N3 hack. The N3 encryption won't be broken anytime soon.

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but I have followed the "scene" long enough and now I realise that the "scene" is flooded with n00bs, traders and idiots. So...

As Mik says, bring it on. It's nice it's come to and end, so a new beginning can start. Maybe now it can get to being tech/intelligent chat. To a lot of ppl its not all about free tv.

someone is blowing smoke up your arse mate...for anyone to say that n3 "is no problem"is just ridiculous and shows you have no understanding of what we are looking at with these cards regarding their security...i have no interest in how much you and your mate made selling other peoples work as suffice to say it wasn't your mate that compromised n1...that has been well documented and vm adopted an already compromised system..

With Sky Germany (Premiere) and Digital + being in N3 which were previously hacked I think the demand is certainly there for a crack....the commercial pirates would make millions should a sat hack become available for these providers.

Even on private forums there is not even a sniff on an N3 hack on the sat scene!

@crackit...not getting into this anymore with you m8....go and do some reading and you may understand the problems we face...

here is a post a lad called ecm153 posted on digital-kaos back in march that makes interesting reading...it shows some inroads have been made albeit on the canadian system and a possible attack method for the cards..does anyone know this lad as he never posted any further info...

The hack is available for sale very soon. Here is what happened. The hack was developed in Canada for the rom24X. However the rom241 and rom240 are the same card. The rom is 100% the same, the only difference is the eeprom. They got into the card by exploiting the cmd26/27 session key mechanism which is the same as cmd2a/2b in single tuners, by signing their own 27s using the boxkey. What was required was the boxkey, a dt08 on the card and some understanding of how to encrypt your own cmd27 based off those variables. Int21h is the one that hacked into the s0x,rom206 and rom240 using this technique. I heard he said he used a ground glitch to get into the rom24X. However according to some smart people the card can only be current glitched and ground glitching will not work. So all you coders out there, look into designing a loader that can control the current and you will find a way to fault the cam. Also do not start by attacking big cmds like cmd26/27. First attack a small cmd like an IFS and see if you can make it respond with bad LRC or bad len. When you do you wIlL have a repeatable ability to fault the cam. Then you can use it to attack bigger cmds. Never start with trying to put a bootloader into the ram, start with doing simple things to prove you can fault it. Int21h said he will release the rom code for everyone too, so just wait to look at areas to load ram but for now attack an IFS to prove the fault technique.

So the question is how do we current glitch a cam? We need to leave voltage at 5volts and only control current. God's gift wasn't women, it was nagra. no.1
