A new digital news platform will be produced by News Corporation in conjunction with Time Inc, Conde Nast, Meredith and Hearst.

Their idea is to launch a digital news-stand which will allow readers to enjoy their various publications on smartphones, e-readers and a diverse array of devices. Whatever screen size or operating system they run.

Other companies will also be able to join the scheme, should they wish, with the aim being to make money charging for content and from advertising revenue.

Readers will be able to view whatever content they’ve purchased on any number of different devices they own, from their laptop to phone.

The move isn’t surprising, as traditional publishers are struggling somewhat in today’s online age, and this might help them claw back some of the losses they’ve taken.
