Police carry out hundreds of raids - live coverage
December 09, 2009
MORE than 100 arrests have been made so far in a day-long crackdown on thieves, robbers and violent criminals by Greater Manchester Police
Officers were breaking down doors of suspected criminals with outstanding warrants for their arrest.
Every suspect taken into police custody was handed a tongue-in-cheek Christmas card.
The cards, which copy the style of M&S adverts, show a sloppy microwave Christmas dinner awaiting thieves who are locked up over the festive period.
The spoof message reads: "This is not just any Christmas dinner – this is a GMP custody suite Christmas dinner."
As of 10am, 108 people have been arrested and are currently being dealt with either by police or by other law enforcement agencies.
Of that figure, 67 have been arrested today, while a further 41 have been arrested in Bolton as part of a longer Admiral operation that began on Monday.
Suspects have been arrested for robbery, violence, theft, burglary and other offences.
The raids this morning raids were aimed at tackling the traditional increase in robberies in the run up to Christmas.
Greater Manchester Police Assistant Chief Constable Terry Sweeney said: "We are sending out a powerful message to criminals that we know who they are and we are coming to get them.
"This operation will disrupt criminal activity and their lifestyles and will ensure thieves, robbers, burglars and any other criminals are not able to ruin anyone’s Christmas.
"We want this operation to boost public confidence at a time when they often feel most vulnerable, while at the same time, putting fear and uncertainty into the minds of criminals."
Current arrest count is 383, 3 cannabis farms busted, cars seized, it's all happening...
There's a live ticker on the site updating what's going on as well.
love it. Bout time the police did something around here. The number of burglary and violence incidents was getting silly.
I went on a visit in Mancland last weekend...seemed nice enough...mind you, did spend most of my time drunk in town...Deansgate I think...had some wild sex too (with my girlfriend)...couldnt wait to get bak to Wales mind you

Fantastic news now why the fuck is just one day set aside to crackdown on thieves, robbers and violent criminals what about the other 364 days? oh yes of course these are what the police describe as petty crime the ones that have the greatest effect on people who have little voice and now political power.a day-long crackdown on thieves, robbers and violent criminals by Greater Manchester Police
I wonder how many of these thieves, robbers and violent criminals re-offended in the time taken to build up a nice list for a PR stunt rather than actually arresting them when the criminal was identified and preventing further crime
wonderful idea spending cash on pointless shit, wonder how much that costEvery suspect taken into police custody was handed a tongue-in-cheek Christmas card.
Wouldn't worry about that they will nearly all be bailed as they save the cells for crimes that effect the government revenue, big business revenue and crimes against people that matter

Guns don't kill people rappers do, I'm a fucking rapper and I might kill you.
This along with BB comments sum it up nicely for me:
Everyone's work is really paying off and you can see by the number of arrests we've made so far how successful this operation has been."
What dross. Yet another high profile media event that means ZERO in reality. They have gone through the database of previous offenders and nothing more. Let us see how many of those arrested and actually charged, and then what they are charged with, followed by the sentences they receive. I am betting that to justify this huge waste of tax payers money, a handful of those arrested will be charged with things like possession of cannabis (we wont be told the amounts, so that joe public can imagine a major 'bust', rather than a fivers cheap lebanese hash) or possession of stolen goods (probably an old car stereo that has been in a kitchen drawer for four years) or even un-taxed tobacco products. It is always the same.
As for the guns. Lets see if they turn out to be immitiation, which in MEN terms can mean a spud gun or cap gun because we are never told the details if they do not make a good story. As for the 'tongue-in-cheek' christmas card, what is that intended to convey? Not fear of prosecution or prison obviously. No, all it does is polarise the police and the criminals even further, closing any hope for dialect and making GMP out to be a force who act just like a bigger gang with more guns. Did they get this idea from the LAPD, who are viewed by even law abiding Californians as little more than an official street gang?

Yeah probably be £4 if someone on here did it but they probably got in experts to do it etc etc and wouldn't surprise me if it cost 5k or more.
Edit: Would also be interested to know who took/supplied the Xmas dinner picture and if they paid or got permission from the rights holder

bloody joke this. More glory cnuts will get the xmas cards and its another trophy on their shelf
Bring back Hanging
I wouldn't be surprised if they spent £5k just commissioning the artwork,£10k making sure it fits in with all current politcally correct wishes and dreams, then another £5k printing them out. (Maybe not £5k x 3 directly spent but if you count paid time wasted....) Could have paid for about 60% of a police officer's annual salary, or a few shitty pointless cards.
I'd be interested in how many actually end up spending more than a day in a police cell over all this expense, let alone actually end up in nick.
