$ky+ Box

Now then,

My $ky+ box is a little over 12 months old and the darned thing keeps freezing and locking us out for ages. even after switching off, disconnecting and leaving it. When it finally worked this afternoon our lass said she couldn't access the recordings from the planner. And now it won't switch on again. When I plug it in I can hear thr HDD speed up then nothing but a red power light in the corner and the frantic flashing of the 'remote' light as I mash the controller. Appart from bouncing it of the walls and throwing it scart end into a bin is there owt I could / should do.

Sounds like the HDD is fecked.

If youre a subscriber they will replace it for £60, unless you can kick up a stink threatening to cancel and they may do it for nowt!

If it's out of warranty, just replace the HDD.

There are plenty of sites that tell you how to do it.

Be warned though, put too big a HDD in and it may draw too much power and you'll still have a fooked box lol

Right then, thanks guys, figured as much. I've got a spare 2.5" 80gb drive knocking about, so i'll have a go at replacing the drive myself. Have you got a recommendation for a guide to follow?

Mine was out of warranty when it started doing the same- I just rang up and threatened to cancel they came and ended up replacing everything for me free of charge.

Thats what I suggested m8...but if hes got a drive there he may as well give it a go...its better to have a play yourself!!

Stripped the knackered HDD from the $ky+ box and dug out my spare drive (its a 120gb, so bonus!) . Just as well I checked it first cos its full of stuff I was keeping so just backing up and then will try and install.

Hope they are both the same interface...the older ones are IDE and the newer PVRs are SATA.

Yep, they were the same, both IDE.

Nice easy simple job to do and box now works like a gem, cheers again guys.
