yep changed the modem back to obtain automatically, do i need to shut the program tftfg program down after the file is loaded?

It uploads the files twice really quickly then i shut the program down, change it back to automatic values

and the modems activity light flashes but nothing happens

Well this is a weird one: I've run through all the steps, and the modem connected to tftp and downloaded the file. Then it connected again, on a different port. And again. and again. and again.

So, i figure, well, its got the file more thna enough times now, that should be enough. I change my settting back. After a while of the "online" light on my surfboard 4100 flashing, it stays on permanently and net starts working again.

I read in the surfbaordhacl.com tutorial that if it connects lots of times, it may be somehting about not needing an MD5 check - but i checked thee server logs and there was no was Error condition 1 or whatever it was, it appeared to have worked each time.

Wheni test the speed, I'm getting normal/perfect-just what it should be

    Dazed and confused,
    james

10mbit is far from standard here, the most common is ADSL 512k/s (both ways), or cable which is ~700->1mbit down, and ~ 128k up.

But the most funny thing is that, the cheapest of these IS 10mbit/s from BBB, but not that many ppl are able to have 'em

Im with BT, does anyone know if this will work with them and does anyone know if the can trace it, or what the penalties are if they do catch you.

    Thanks

Wont work on bt as they have adsl not cable modems, They can trace you as proved on another thread but it does take them a while and you need to really abuse it, Penalties are AFAIK lifetime ban from the service. Probably not worth it anymore with the 1mbit service at a reasonable price, i really haven't noticed much difference between the 2mbit and 1mbit, p2p is still slow, websites take as long to load as ever, the only things that i am bothered about being slower on the 1mbit is ftp and upload. but then i guess i can wait an extra half hour for movies.

ps, This thread has gone on far too long

Yep, its not worth it, I had the 2 meg connection file running for a few weeks and never got caught

Got the I meg connecton now and would not want to run the risk of being banned from their network

Its such a relief now I can now get good upload / download speeds without having to worry about being banned.
