i am getting a problem with this all i am getting after i turn the c/m back on is "cannot find file" something or another , i am trying this on xp and 2k but get the same prob every time . can anyone help ?

Guys please be very carefull Cable companies have reverse look up so they can see exactly who is doing it, in most cases you will get one warning depending on how silly you go. other cases they will remove service completely and ban you from getting again, and in worst case senerio take you to court ie some tosser who set his modem at 75 meg which crashed the servers

Hmmm, anyone else experiencing the problem of when trying to load the very first link 192.168.10.1/address.html whatever it asks me for a username and password?

what modem you using? this only works on motorola surfboard modems.

the link is actually http://192.168.100.1 if you try that there will be a link to the addresses page

If not then it may be your proxy if you have one or you may not have admin rights on the machine, dont really know whats the setup?

Ah right, im using an NTL:HOME own brand modem which is silver in colour think its called NTL:HOME100 ?

gotta be ntl being to$$ers then and putting the password on the settings page. but don't really matter now cos you cant uncap the modem anyway.

It is understandable why they changed from the surfboards tho, if they have to keep cutting people off for uncapping they will lose a fortune but give people a different modem that cant be uncapped and the chances are they will pay for the 1mbit service, even if it is �50/month.

That poor chap clearly stated it works on both BY and NTL as long as yourhave the Motorola Surfboard modem!

Hehehe, I ain't flaming...but some of you guys are a tiny little bit lazy...read the whole thread!

With NTL and BY, all modems are supplied by them now. You HAVE to rent one or buy one from THEM. I don't think they do the model anymore though. Not 100% sure. WIth NTL, you are likely to get a Terayon one.

Yep, I'm with NTL and I do have a Terayon... but I wouldn't mind buying a Surfboard and keeping the Terayon spare... just the things are as scarce as hens teeth...

Yeah....you really don't want to go back to dialup, do you....that would be disastrous...I did initially think about doing it when this post first came out but chickened out coz I hate BT and I hate my 56K even more.

Maybe someday UK will catch up with the rest of the world on the 'reasonable ISP' front.

Few Quastions :

Well I'm In US on Surfboard Modem SB 4100 on AT&T and i tried the tutorial on the other site uncappingsurfboard.com or something and it didn't work cause i couldn't disable logging on my modem and I couldn't change my IP to the HCB one and it said that that ips in use.

And on this tutoril i did all as said and didn't work.

So I Dunno I wanna have faster speed of course cause now I let around 30 GB down and around 7 GB up every 24 hours. But won't they notice it easily that I let through more data hat usual?

Hi there,

I read a post somewhere before. Basically it was about a guy in on AT&T and he uncapped his connection. Within an hour he got caught and got banned for life. The problem was AT&T is the biggest ISP/Comm company in the States or something (even some smaller companies are theirs...that's the problem) so he couldn't get any other broadband connection anymore....
