Default Help with home cinema speakers

I've posted this on AVForums - but thought i'd post it here too as I'm sure tehers loads of folk who can help out.

Basiclaly, after ages pondering on whetehr to get a home cinema. I have just used my Christmas money to go and buy a Sony STRDH800 Receiver and JAMO A102 HCS5 5.1 Speaker package. Both from Richer sounds.

Now, setting up the receiver is fine. Its the positioning of the speakers that I'm a tad stumped on and would love to get the suggestions of some of you seasoned pros.

I've attached a little diagram of my room living room layout - I know (or rather think) that the front speakers should go either side of the tv (about a meter away each side right?) and the centre speaker should sit under the TV. Its the rear speakers that I'm unsure about.

I think one of them should go in the corner behind and left of the settee -It seems kind of logical. However where should the other rear speaker go. If possible i'd like to place it where i get the benefit of it (I sit on the settee mostly) but would also like for visitors who like to sit n chair 1 to also get the benefit. And thats the bit that stumps me -should it go to the left of the bookcase? Or in the opposite corner to the first rear speaker, behind and to the right of Chair 1?

I'm going to use wall brackets for the speakers so want to be sure i get the best possible positioning.

Lastly - does speaker height matter much?

All help and suggestions appreciated folks!

I would swap around the settee and the chair position wise so the settee is looking flat on to the TV. You would have a better position then to place the speakers.

I would put one by the side of the bookcase and one in the left corner of the room. Two front speakers equal distance each side of the TV and its not that important where the sub whoofer goes but would be behind the settee.

The centre speaker can always go under the TV.

    Regards

Cheers mate - I told him that too. I'm more of a penthouse man.

One last question - what about speaker heights? Should the rear speakers be quite high on the wall?

I would sit down and mount the speakers head hight for all round quality.

    Best wishes.
