Default Original HD for another original HD

To cut a long story short, I now have 1 X-box, and 2 original HD's.
I am currently waiting for a Matrix chip to arrive, so currently have no mod.
The X-box I have at the moment has a Western Digital HD in it, but the spare one I have has all my save games etc on it, and is a Seagate.
I tried swapping them, but when it boots, I get a scrambled screen with the Seagate drive.

Can anyone tell me why this is? Both are original X-box HD's.
Will the Seagate one be OK when I put a mod in?

    Cheers

Each hard drive is locked to each specific xbox motherboard. It'll only work in the motherboard it came with. What you would have to do is put the hard drive back in the box it came in along with the mod, use the backup feature of the new EvoX to get the lock key, put it in your computer and use hdunlock.exe to unlock it then use hddisable.exe to disable the lock. Then you would be able to use that hard drive in any modded box. I think there is someone who has written a program that does both in one setup, but I haven't used it.

    Damn!
I no longer have the original Xbox.
Is there anything I can do with the HD? - Other than chuck it in the bin?!!
Can it be unlocked without the original Xbox in anyway?

just a quick note: it seems the hard drives are NOT locked to a specific motherboard (at least with a modchip). I have taken the drive from mine, put it in a friends xbox and it works perfectly. I have done this four times and thus far have had no problems at all. Now wether or not they are locked to each xbox WITHOUT a modchip, I cannot tell you as I have always used xbox's with modchips installed.

    I hope this helps,

    Sandman

Are you using the original hard drive? If you are, is it a referb box? Maybe the hard drive died and MS did something. I do know that each hard drive IS locked to a specific motherboard, using the key contained in the EEPROM, the HDD Serial number, and another number from the hard drive to calculate the unlock key.

The drivers just allow you access to the FatX filesystem. You still have to unlock the drive.

I'll maybe just try it in my xbox when my chip arrives rather that chucking it out now!
    Only takes 10 seconds.

Total pain in the arse though... had nearly finished Halo & Dead to Rights, and had spent about 30 hours playing Sega GT 2002! ALL GONE

    Scimmia,

No all of the Xboxes I have done have been new units (not refurbed). Maybe, it is only on a certain number of xboxes? I know, sounds retarded, but anything is possible, no?

Sandman, unless you're using a replacement hard drive, I don't know how this would be possible. Everything we know about the hard drive says that it is impossible with the original hard drive.
