Former Gunner moves to City on loan from Inter.

Manchester City have completed the signing of Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira on loan.

The former Arsenal enforcer has moved to Eastlands on an initial six-month deal, with an option of a further 12 months to follow.

Vieira, 33, becomes Roberto Mancini's first signing since taking the manager's job at City, having worked with him at Inter, and the Frenchman moves after passing a medical at the club on Thursday afternoon.

Mancini admitted he was delighted to secure the services of the experienced midfielder, who still harbours hope of playing in the summer's World Cup, and thinks he will be an important signing for the club.

"Patrick is a world class midfielder with a winner's mentality and will fit into this group very well," he told the club's official website.

"He knows me and my staff well, and importantly he also knows what the Premier League is all about.

"He will not need much time to settle in.

"Patrick is one of the great players of this era with almost every honour in the game against his name.

"I am sure City fans will welcome him warmly and appreciate the contribution he will make."

Vieira made 279 appearances during a nine-year stint with Arsenal, winning the Premier League three times.

Well I'm on the fence at the mo.

Yes he was quality in his day and I'm sure he can still do a bit but I must admit I was surprised when I first found out. Also I think he's getting £10 million for 18 months (heard on local radio) and well not bad if you can get it!

I suppose as a 'quick fix' he'll do but I hope Mancini invests in long term players and I for one would always like to have British players as the 'core' of my team.

I'm a little indifferent on this one.
I can see the reason why we bought him, he knows all off Mancini's coaching staff from his Inter days so should fit in straight away and the guy will be a great presence around the club. He has won numerous medals and is a born winner. The exact mentality that we are trying to bring into Manchester City. Unlike other players that we have bought in the past, Viera does have the motivation and incentive, a good end of season with City and he could be on the plane to South Africa.
On the other hand, I dont think we need another Defensive midfielder, Nigel De Jong has been class all season and Big Vinny is coming back to full fitness. I was hoping that Mancini's first signing would be a central defender, but he knows better than I do.
There are also not many succesful teams these days that use such a big and aggresive defensive midfielder, the style of play in football has changed so much recently.
It will be interesting to see who Mancini drops for Viera, and tbh Viera is going to have to play out of his skin week in week out to keep his place

Slow...and italy's nowhere near the pace of the PL. He'll still be good though, alongside City's other, faster midfielders, certainly an asset.

I'd have thought 1st thing would be to sure up the defence but Vieira isn't bad as a 1st signing, he knows what he's doing (please god let me be right).

I would think any team outside the top 3 wouldn't mind having Vera in their side, so let's see what the lad can do eh? Memories don't mean shit, it's his pitch performance that is gonna tell. Who's gonna bench warm though?

Not too sure what the issue is here, there aren't that many city fans on this forum. I think we have all had our say, put forward good arguments for and against the buying of Viera. I think its a good constructive thread. Unlike the drivel that all us non Man Yoo or Liverpool fans have to endure each day when one of you starts the most pathetic argument and drag it on for pages and pages.
