Internet Tethering on Iphone 3G

Hi all,

I have an Iphone 3G and want to get internet tethering set up on it, however, I am not on a Iphone contract with 02, I have a sim only contract but with unlimited internet.

Does anyone know how I can get this to work?

I've attached the settings you need for 02. Just email it to your phone and tap it and install it. Then you can enable tethering from the settings and it'll work. It works on my 3G on contract, can't see why it won't work on PAYG?

EDIT to say that this used to work on 3.0 firmware however i've just installed it on the latest firmware and it doesn't seem to work anymore. Arse

Yep. But seems to only work on 3.0 firmware.

just been googling now and it can be done on 3.1.2 but im still finding out how to understand it

ok done it and infact on it right now.

in cydia search and add ifoneguide repo.
then search for tethering patch and install the right one for your iphone 3g/3gs
now reboot your iphone
in safari type in http://www.benm.at/help/help.php and go to mobile configs then United Kingdom and finally select your carrier and install the file.
it will ask you to confirm, just say yes. and then your all done
go to settings/network the turn on internet tethering

MiWi is worth a look. It's a paid app but I wouldn't be without it. You get USB, Bluetooth and WiFi tethering.

Just use bluetooth or the usb cable. Vista will see it and set it up for you.

Yes it does. Mine says internet tethering at the top with a blue background

Guess i've done something wrong then my screen stays the same and vista just sees the iphone and asks if i want to view the photos on it.

Yes i turned it on cheeky The top of the iphone screen dose not go blue though. I've just tried reinstalling and now the stupid phone has locked up on the apple logo i'm now restoring and re jailbreaking.

miwi is deffo worth a look, should be a free trial also. acts as a wireless router so others can connect also, very handy if u got 2 people with laptops.

I'm having the same issues. I have followed the guide word for word but it doesn't tether. When I turn tethering on, I can hear a sound from the laptop but then what do I do?

Shouldnt think so.

When you plug it in with the cable and IT turned on it should install the modem drivers for it. Until that is set up the phone will not have the blue bar.

once its installed as a network then it will connected everytime you plug it in via usb (not done BT so dont know)

Unplug it and the blue bar goes away.
