Woman killed as she tries to stop car thief

Police released a photo of a similar vehicle as they hunt for the stolen car

A thief has run over and killed a woman who tried to stop him stealing her sports car in Greater Manchester. Police said the victim was thrown on to the bonnet of her MG after she saw him in the driver's seat of the car, parked in Prestt Grove, Worsley Mesnes.
The woman, believed to be 42, suffered head injuries and died in hospital following the theft on Thursday.
Det Ch Insp Robert Tonge said the incident was "shocking" and appealed for information.
Officers have called for anyone who has seen the yellow MG, registration AK53 WNW, to call police.
Prestt Grove and Cornwallis Road were closed while officers dealt with the incident.
Mr Tonge, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This is a shocking incident in which a car thief has deliberately driven at a woman.
"She went on to the car bonnet and suffered a serious head injury. Whoever did this is clearly reckless and potentially dangerous so we need the public's help to catch him.
"It's quite a distinctive vehicle so we really need to hear from anyone who knows of this car's whereabouts."
