Sounds more like something nasty there, i`m running 3 gig and no issues at all. I have even removed the hiber file as it eats up alot of the drive space. Winxp manager could come in useful as it alters whats in your memory. found in the usual places

I'm running 4gb on Win 7 (Pro) 64 on both my home and work machines without any issues

What're you doing when you get the issues, as i'm often running video, download and unraring, running photoshop and developing code all at the same time, and the only time i've had a problem with memory, it was a bad module which needed replacing

With Vista and Windows 7 the OS will use the ram more instead of caching to the hard drive like XP as its quicker so if you have 4GB the OS will try and use it.

what is using up the most in task manager is the system running slow ?

I also have no issues with my Win 7 set-up with 4Gig of Ram...
It might be worth seeing if something untoward is gobbling up resources as Mickey suggested
(if, that is, you haven't sorted it by now)...
