VW Golf mk3 strange request?

Hi there guys. I kind of hope someone can help with this; oh and I will be getting the 'honk if parts fall off your car' sticker to go on my bumper.

Anyhoo... I was driving down the motorway on Thursday and something fell off my car. I didn't realise what it was until it hit the windscreen of the car behind (at this point I stood on the accelerator as hard as I could).

On a mk3 Golf there are some pieces of plastic under the engine (to protect it?). It was one of these.

Can anyone tell me how important these are, and more to the point where I can get one from and how much it will cost.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you got a digital camera mate? If so can you take a picture ofthe engine bay and post it on here and we can play spot the missing piece for you. Otherwise i think its a stab in the dark for us

could be just part of the nsp. (noise supression pannel)
mine fell off ages ago on my old car. i never replaced it..but they sometimes are advisable if you have a leaky engine to catch the drops under the sump.
they are not normally held on by much mine was a quick release screw type

its a strange request your right lol, lots of cars have all sorts of plastic underneath now.

i personally dont think there that important(some of them) but you dont know what piece yet do you? if you do? phone around some scrappys or pay a dealer top wack. are you sure you didnt just go over sommit in the road?? and flick it up

No I am pretty sure I know where it came from. On the right side of the engine there is a piece of plastic. On the left side there is no piece of plastic, but there are holes where the quick release screw things were.

Definately not the timing cover. Although it may not have come from my car at all.

I think I will get hold of the manual (I have only had the car 2 weeks) and see if I can pick up the part from a scrapper. Although you never see VWs in scrappers.
