$1000 DF dollars for the best idea.

No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

If it's purely for tax reasons name it something totally retarded and stupid.

We used month names from the dischordian calendar as a root password theme at work one month last year, and my boss was setting up his limited company that day so he went for "Fnord" which is a word that practitioners of the dischordian religion are trained not to be able to see from a young age, it just gives them an uneasy feeling if they come across it written down. I heard him talking to the accountant who was setting it all up for him on the phone "er yeh.. it's just a computer term"

If it's something to actually advertise your business with and going on business cards and receipts and stuff then I find a gimmicky clever name makes me think companies are new and not that serious, although it's your call.

for the most part it will be simply a letterhead company BUT just occasionally i will need to invoice some big name companies - (british school of motoring BSM, technical divers international TDI and worst of all, driving standards agency, DSA)

I set up my own limited company a few years ago and one thing that I did before finalising on a name was to think of a logo design at the same time. I think it looks a bit more profesional in the future when you submit invoices etc, especially to bigger companies.

Some random facts I found about company names as a result of being bored:

Tesco was named after a Mr COhen bought a shipment of tea from T. E. Stockwells and used the combination to name his shop.

ASDA started life as Associated Dairies and Farm Stores Ltd. then merged with the Asquith chain of stores and assosciated dairies, getting the name from ASquith and DAiries. It's now part of the Wal-Mart family, I can't find where it's name came from but it was run by a guy called Mr Walton and had an early store in Walnut Avenue so there are some likely ideas.

Microsoft wasn't really named after two adjectives for the owner's penis. I can't find a source but I'd guess it's from their making of software for microcomputers. Their first international office, in Japan, was originally named ASCII Microsoft, and later renamed to Microsoft Japan. They named Bing after the sound a bell makes when it is ringing. (probably more accurately the sound of even more money sliding into google's bank account given that it's shite)

At this point I realised that somebody will have done this before, and that I have 3 exams next week to be studying for and not pissing around with this.

    Presenting:
    List of company name etymologies

Some interesting ones in the (very long) list that could give some ideas.

    Ride, Drive and Dive!
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.
