Mobile operator 3 has announced that it has switched on its 10,000th cell site in the UK.

The company boasted that its 3G coverage is now 93% after the site, in Shooters Hill, London, was activated.

3 said this was part of an expansion drive which will see the number of cell sites across the country boosted to 13,000 before the close of 2010.

Graham Baxter, CTO at 3 UK, commented: “Our network is already the biggest 3G network in the UK. Now we’re adding new coverage and capacity across the country to meet demand and bring the benefits of 3G to people who’ve never had access in their area before.”

The company also said that it was introducing a new policy of making extra efforts to help advise people about network coverage problems, and to help resolve any issues that come up.
