    Default windows 7 XP mode

i messed around in vista so much trying to get a couple of old games to run with no luck, so now i have windows 7 and i know some of you are gonna be saying "run in compatability mode" i have done that as you should have guessed.

so i am going balls out and trying Windows XP mode......

so heres my desktop all cleaned up for the event..

now lets start up windows XP..

WOW...its that independant to Win 7 that i need to turn on auto updates to get it up to scratch an i need to install a bloody anti-virus program..lol

so lets put the icons where i like em and add a wallpaper..

looks like i remember it now..

i am going to let it do the updates now and stick avg free on it then its time for the games...

i know some of you will already be top experts on this so please tell me of your results.

i will update if i have any success....

Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean
    the same thing?

Was playing with this early december for work - we have a couple of legacy apps that so very nearly worked fine with this mode - was very frustrating having the s/w working sweet except one or two essential features.

I personally would advise on microsoft security essentials rather than avg.

Also the vm's that I set up were set to automatically defrag and reboot on the weekends - think how when your pc has been on for ages and needs a reboot to get it fresh again....

windows xp mode is not meant for games it's there really for business apps. Like you have found the graphics emulation does not have 3d acceleration support. There are some others that claim to have 3d accelerated graphics (i think vmware) but it is still poor at running games The best thing to do is to list your games here and we will see if we can find a work around.

from what i have read you can fix it by running the video compatability test default location is here
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II\D2VidTst.exe"
and then after an error running it try running again and it works
I don't have the game but i saw it on another forum. The other thing suggested was to register at battle.net and you can then download a copy that works better apparently

I Probably realise this sounds a bit over the top, you can get Windows (the bootloader from 7) to load VHD's as bootable volumes, directly, so you could use XP mode from withn in 7, or boot straight into it.. It might help to get graphics-apps working temporarily...
If XP mode uses VMD files, they can be mounted easily... Any HyperV or Virtual PC are bootable from what I have read...
if you try it, let me know if it works!
