I've got a potential buyer for my ADSL modem who wants to know if Pipex are still the cheapest provider. Are they still doing their free connection scheme? the website doesn't make it very clear...
Are there any providers cheaper than pipex?

Well I pay about £13 or so a month with pipex, I think the free modem offer is ended but im not sure about connection it was free for me and Ive been happy with it since . Although the modem didnt like my modest overclocking it works a treat now (lets hope thats not famous last words). U could do worse than look here:http://www.dslreports.com/ or http://www.adslguide.org.uk

tell them to check www.adslguide.org.uk to compare the prices. Plus.net do a cheap one without p2p and binary news, there was a new one that started a couple of weeks ago that does 19.99 can't remember who it was off hand.

Hxbro; I think this is the company u were thinking of
ET Global Solutions Thier's two options 4 the home 1 for £18.95
and the other for £22.45 that's with vat; second option has a lower ratio to the first one (40:1) still good price.
I use plus net £23/month Static IP extra £1 for a domain nameand 250meg webspace, they are easyly the best ISP for ADSL I've found (Used to be with BT Openworld) they have there own games servers and eveythink.
Let me know if you join so I can refer you and save myself 50p a month £22.50
They do other cheaper packages but this one looks the best package to me.

Easy when you know how, or where to look
Looks like I jumped in too soon!
I went for the Onetel deal... free modem, free connection, all for £27.99 p/m.
Having said that, it works great and their phone rates are reasonable, e.g, peak 2.5p anywhere in uk, off peak 1p.
International call rates are also pretty good. USA 3p p/m
Hope someone from Onetel reads this a wee bit of commission would be much appreciated.
OneTel have also got a broadband and call deal...free uk calls and bradband all for £29.99. Does anyone have broadband with OneTel? whats the connection like and whats the connection ratio?Originally Posted by mervano
I have just switched from Pipex @ £23.44/mth for 512/256 to EFHBroadband @ £11.74 for 512/256 and will be regrading to their 1Mb service for £19.96/mth inc VAT... They have no restrictions on their service but they do charge extra for email accounts (£10/year)
See them here: http://www.efhbroadband.com/
Speeds are comparable to that of Pipex and their customer support is far superior than that of Pipex which sux big mutz nutz!!!

V21 are currently doing 512/256 ADSL for 16.99 a month, unlimited bandwidth. Also in December they are doing a special offer with a free modem and the first 2 months for free. There is a standard setup fee of 58 quid though, or 10 quid to transfer from another provider.
Plusnets referal scheme is a complete waste of time, when I was with them I refered several friends and never got a penny discount, kept getting excuses like I didnt put the referral in properly or they havnt entered ur username properly (even tho I signed em up myself). When I finally got rid of Plusnet (best move EVER) they decided to just keep taking money. I cancelled the Direct debt and they just used the credit card details (which u need to sign up) to take the money instead. AVOID PLUSNET!!!! yep they are cheap but believe me when u try to cancel u will see how bad they really are, other people on this forum have had similar problems with them.
If nature always takes the easiest route, what's easier...?
The creation of billions of galaxies each containing trillions of stars each with their own solar systems, some with planets that have evolved civilisations with billions of different life forms. OR The creation of just your imagination?
I've had similar problems with PlusNet - none of my referrals worked either. The automatic email that s supposed to get sent when you fill in the referral form never worked for anyone, so I did it manually (actually sat at the PC of the person I was referring and registered my username) and I still never had anything.
Their actual service is OK I've been getting good speeds, very rare the service is down. The big benefit I have with them is the web hosting, cos it's got PHP and MySQL, so I used it as a test server for my web development. Plus, there was no minimum contract when I signed up so I can leave it whenever - although from what you say it looks like they'll carry on charging me anyway!
Yeah. I'm very tempted with that offer also.Originally Posted by Nemesis
I've read somewhere that if you are transfering (say from pipex to EFH) you will stay on IPStream but if they are setting you up from new they put you on Datastream.
Anyone know what Datastream means and what the implications are ?
These are both BT Wholesale provided services but they deliver the connection to the ISP in a different way.Anyone know what Datastream means and what the implications are ?
IPStream is a service where the user traffic is routed longer inside BT's managed network whereas with DataStream, the ISP takes one or more 'virtual path' (VP) circuits to each local exchange so they can manage contention themselves.
Most ISPs use DataStream to deliver services with high contention ratios spread over very small numbers, so often DataStream will deliver worse performance, however technically it is capable of more customised services, including 1:1 contention. Therefore, you should not choose a service solely because it uses IPStream or DataStream but look into user experiences of the particular service. DataStream's advantage in the current market is for ultra low cost services, or low contention / uncontended services or where Quality of Service (QoS) is needed.
Once you are on Datastream thouugh there is currently no way to migrate you to another ISP... apparently it's being worked on though and should be available early next year.
