If you got UBER memory like me then the PC don`t really need a swapfile. This is basically an extension of the memory inside your PC but uses the hardrive as memory (fecking slow) at swapping out data. The Hiber.wotsit is an image of your whole system and once it goes past a sleep stage it goes into the hibe state This is can be rebooted nearly instantly to your windows screen. Your Swapfile is exactly the same as your system memory. So if you got a 2 gig machine youll have a 2 gig swap file unless you alter it. Its basically the same with the hiber.wotsit that is the same as your memory specs.

Because i dont need em or use em i deleted em. If my PC can`t run with 6 gig of 16000 DDR3mhz then why bother

If you got at least 4 gigs of memory (i wouldn`t rec any less) then its a matter of running a dos box in admim mode and deleteing the hiber.wotsit file. The url below will help in this
    http://www.windows7hacker.com/index....d-drive-space/

to diable the swapfile read below
    http://www.askvg.com/master-tutorial...-7-super-fast/

If you do this be it on your own back.

win 7 x86 and x64 works great here, think something else might be wrong with your setup IMHO

I have both and mainly use windows 7 so I know the differences. I don't just follow hype. Now tell me what is your list of advantages.

And back on topic bub have you checked to see what taskmanager says is there anything using a lot of cpu resources or is ur cpu using a high percent for no apparent reason. If you can find that out it would help in solving the problem.

no list of advantages for me per se, vista 64 never ran any better than 32 on this pc, whereas 7 x64 is certainly quicker at certain tasks. seems to have better compatibility too

ok since everyone is really happy with Win7 and it seems no one is having probs with multitasking I thought I will dig a little further.
Firtsly I got to the bottom of VNC and the reason its choppy is because I needed to change a setting from the default in settings 'Put the "skip-filter for H264" to all
Next Newsleecher, that was running poo because of version 3.9beta, ive just installed 4.0 Beta and it doesnt seem to hog as much resources. i still cant download 10 connections at 20 meg and watch a 1080p movie though without the movie struggling but at least 1080p is ok now.
ive checked my procceses and nothing is hogging the processor apart from System idle which is 99% which I know means the reverse

Thanks for replies and ill keep Win7 for now as its a lot better than before

    Ok, I'll play...

    - 7 uses memory much more economically than vista
    - 7 uses cpu cycles much more economically than vista
    - 7 as a result has overall better performance
    - 7 has improved backup and restore options from Vista's version
    - 7 Bitlocker allows encryption of removable harddrives and USB drives
    - 7 has native Blu-ray support
    - Virtualised shell locations in 7
    - Native virtual hard disk support in 7
    - Simultaneous use of multi vendor graphics cards in 7
    - Shutdown time almost halved in 7
    - Startup time slightly better in 7
    - Solid State Drive support with Superfetch disabling in 7

    -Etc,etc,etc, et infinitum

(....and that's not even touching the UI)

I'm chucking my 2p in here, I had Vista x64 on this machine before i installed win7 x64 and while I liked vista and had no problems (I know I think I was the only one lol) I've had a little teething toubles with win7 but nothing that an update here and there didnt sort out. Personally I'd install something newer before giving up on it totally because if you do have a machine running a 6700 build its laggin a little behind Ive got build 7600 running on mine and I dare say theres a later build out if its still no good then image vista back on theres no point running an os regardless of how good it is for other people if you cant get anything done on it,

also rather than installing codec packs when you install the codecs just get the ones that you need I remember years back when I had an xp machine some of the codecs would cause it to run at the speed of smell, I haven't installed any codecs on my machines for ages, fire up vlc and it'll play anything.
