I deleted it because I searched on the XBMC wiki and confirmed my original thoughts that it is not possible Windows can play Blu-ray and HD-DVD when using specific versions of PowerDVD or similar bloatware, massive shame there are no lite apps (that I know of) that can do the job.
Yep I only bought it because it was cheap and I hadn't had one. Left my answer up incase it was useful to someone else. As I mentioned it works great for DVD movies would just be useful to be able to use it for other data too

right after some messing about I can now mount the dvdrom drive and see the items in the sources list including any data, sadly I cant see how to unmount/eject it in xbmc without resorting to ssh. Will report back if I find anything else...

I picked up the 3600 Linux version for £130 last week.
It's the single core 1gb version.
I've stuck Ubuntu 9.10 and Boxee on it, which was a piece of piss, but then I always struggle to understand how people find this diffcult.
It happily runs sabnzbd and runs Boxee at the same time.
I was going to install XBMC but as Boxee is a fork of XBMC I thought I'd give it a whirl.
It's really polished and has loads of apps built in, iplayer etc.
Boxee plays 720 HD no problems and from what i've read 1080 as well, BBC iPlayer works a treat and I use Sopcast for streaming sports.
Have ordered a PS3 Bluetooth remote for it, which should arrive this week.

Just to make sure I am on the right lines, is the only benefit of Linux the VDPAU ability?
I have read that DXVA is now possible on the windows XBMC so there would be no issues in playing HD content as the ION hardware is utilised. As far as I know the best way to do this is to integrate DSPlayer into XBMC (instructions here). It is not yet included in a XBMC release (AFAIK).
Has anyone tried this? I am going to give it a bash today if I get some time.
My problem is I have XBMC all working on Windows using Showmix 2.5. All HD content stutters even with the latest Nvidia drivers (not the ones CJ had issues with, there is a newer BETA which addresses those issues). I need to get DXVA working to take some strain from the CPU onto the GPU.
Anyway if I succeed I will post back to help some others, looks a bit complicated to setup the filters on DSPlayer, I just hope installing it will not mess up XBMC like some users have said it does.

I'm still torn between the xbmc freak and the auto script linked to earlier. They both seem to do different things well. I do have a minor problem at the moment in as far as I can't play files bigger than 4GB from DVDDL discs. They play up to a point and stop. I'm not sure if it's a drive/setup issue or if the layerbreak is messing it up. Google aint much help as it keeps throwing up xbox1 threads.
Anyway, just giving the auto installer another go. My windows partition is all but gone, I've shrunk it to 60GB and I don't think I'm going to need it at all. The rest of the drive is 250ish GB of ext4 set up in various SMB shares. Well, it will be when I've finished the install.

If it's not one thing it's another!! I got the BSplayer XBMC latest build, then found out it has a bug that overloads the CPU so got e second latest version which is reported as good. Installed it, tweaked FFDShow and added a new rule to BSplayer for DXVA on MKV content at 1080p.
Loaded up XBMC, noticed Movies and TV Shows were missing. Changed the skin back to Showmix and still they were missing and my keyboard stopped working in XBMC! This is not a fault with the skin. So now I have a XBMC with movies and tv shows enabled but missing, a keyboard that won't work and no media. All google links for keyboard and missing menu items don't provide any help. And this XBMC was a clean install after removing the previous version. I will start again when I get home but I don't see what good it will do
lol starting to get a bit racked off now, can't get my dvdrom drive to mount, although dvd movies play just fine if I hit the play button on the desktop with one in. Even tried the BluRay plugin which tries it's best to play a avchd disc but fails (I get sound and black screen).
Everything else seems peachy including smb shares (both on the revo and others) wake on lan, xbmc remote on the iphone and other goodies.
1080p playback of mkv's etc has always worked flawlessly.
Problems I have at the moment...
mounting of DVD (other than video) AGAIN
occasional lockup when shutting the system down, although I can get to the console and do it manually
I'd like to set up an auto nzb downloader of some kind, that i could just send a nzb to and it'll go off and grab the files for me. Anyone have any clues ?

Would SABNZBd do the job mate? Paste a newzbin link into it and it will auto grab, repair, and extract to your monitored library so XBMC picks it up next time you launch It also has RSS features, it can monitor a folder for NZBs, it can follow bookmarked NZBs, you can run it with NZBTV for TV shows and you can control it remotely on the iPhone.
Have you setup your tv and movie sources in videos mate? Some skins won't show the tv show or movie button on the home screen till you've added your sources.
:kissass
all bbc plugins no longer work.
The beeb sorted out the security. There was an article about it on the reg a few weeks ago.

maltloaf if youR running the cut down version of ubuntu with xbmc, just install sabnzbd and set to run as a service. You access it via web browser, and set it to watch folders.
You can then set it to move downloads on completion.
http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/install-ubuntu-repo
Easy to install from the CLI
I set it to watch a dropbox folder, so can dump in nzb's from work etc and sabnzbd picks them up and gets on with it.
